Speedrunning Super Mario Bros 3 on NES. This is the warpless category. I used to run this like 6 or 7 years ago so I have a bit of experience with the run. My goal is to at least beat my old PB of 53m55s.

  1. To answer the question of the person who asked in your stream about playing this game on iPhone the issue is not so much Nintendo as it is Apple. Apple has a strict policy against all forms of piracy and also includes all forms of emulation in that policy and therefore does not allow emulators of any kind on the App Store. If Nintendo chose to distribute a mobile version of the game (which they don't) then it would be allowed on the App Store. There are a few methods to install or access third party app stores on iOS and some of those app stores do include emulators made for iOS but they are still against Apple ToS and in many cases, Apple does issue deauthorizations which make the apps unusable. This means that they do remotely access your device and block the use of apps that they do not approve of. This is a known issue with Apple that a lot of users especially privacy conscious users do not like but the reason they have so far gotten away with it is because they argue that they should be in control of the security of your device and that these apps are a security issue in their opinion. There is a third party app store that requires a subscription but the money allegedly goes towards combatting deauthorizations and getting apps back up and running ASAP. With Android devices this is an entirely different story as emulators are allowed on the Google Play Store and its as simple as downloading an NES emulator and the ROM file for the game.

TL;DR Emulators violate Apple's ToS and are not allowed on the App Store but Third Party App Stores offer a workaround for iPhones and iPads. Android is probably the best way to go if you intend on using emulators on your phone or tablet as it is not a violation of Google's ToS and there is a wide variety of emulators available on the Google Play Store. Regardless of platform ROM files (Games) are not distrubuted with emulators due to the inherent question of piracy that surrounds emulation.

  2. I remember that fateful day when me mum came home from work carrying a very large bag… inside was the bundled SMB3 NES and my brother and I were jumping about like puppies and I was actually 16 and every waking moment was spent for many months on the SMB cartridges, one SMB1 we ran round it many times to see how much harder each time got then later the SNES came out with the holy SMW and the later All-Stars which was to date just about the best cartridge Nintendo brought out. I do prefer All-Stars versions to NES versions tbh, well done Nintendo and you got me hooked on SMB3 Advance right now which is just awesome 🙂

  3. Love this game. Love watching speedruns of it, too. Awesome job.
By the way, you ever play the Final Fight series? Those games are awesome, would be cool to see them.

  4. Wow! Defeating that first Boom Boom with the star in W6 gave you a Spanish question orb.

ETA: Holy crap, I didn't know there was more than one Hammer Bros suit in the game! I thought I had played this inside and out as a kid, but to think I missed stuff. That's so wild.
