In this video I make a kitchen island unit with drawers, solid oak end grain butcher block top and oak shelf, and Iβll share with you my method for getting a really durable and hardwearing paint finish on MDF which is resistant to cleaning, scratches etc.

Loved thus build Keith. Keep it up
Iβve given up on water based paints for wood. Iβve tried Dulux, Crown and Farrow and Ball. I might give Leyland a try
That's a nice piece of furngiture.
Thank you for this video, Keith! I'm wanting to build a media cabinet in birch plywood with a solid birch top and this was a gold mine of information.
I'm planning on gluing and screwing the carcass together with 12mm plywood, then laminating the outsides with 6mm plywood, making it 18mm total and hiding the screws. Hope it's a good idea, haha!
Anyway, this looked really good with that "bespoak" top π
I would have imagined the butcher block top to be very stable and immune to movement ??
Beautiful. I wanna. I've been outbid, though I did get the price up from Β£42 to Β£150. You're welcome π
Really nice piece. One thought, rather than threaded inserts you can just tap a thread in the wood itself. Works surprisingly well and I'd say easier to do. I watched a video recently testing the strength of this and it came out better than using the inserts.
Great job keith
Very nice looking. I would've bid on it if you were sending it to outside of UK.
Love this channel but love the build videos the most. As always there is great detail and thought. Super stuff ππΌππΌ
π Nice job once again Keith. I'm sure that will sell in no time at all. Just a quick question…. do you tend to brand the items you sell like this ?. Just curious π€. Thanks for the video mate ππ
That's great looking unit Keith, I hope it generates the interest (and value) that it deserves, the only issue may be the weight dictating that it's for collection only, but it's certainly worth travelling for !
As always it's great that you include the face palm / Doh moments as it keeps it real and reminds us that we all make mistakes and that there aren't that many that can't be fixed with a little ingenuity and extra effort !
A lovely piece of kitchen furniture
I would have owned the mistaken and painted it black or another contrasting color to draw attention to the nice oak shelf π
Really nice end product! I have one question, why are the back side of the front panels of the drawers unpainted? I think that really ruines the final productπ or have you painted it after you mount the handles on camera
Keith, where are you getting the Medite from in Norwich?
Nice work on the kitchen island Keith! Thanks for sharing the video with us!πππJP
Hey Keith, looks great, just wondering why you didn't paint it with your ANI R160? I have the same spray setup as you and am continuously questioning roller vs spray finish.
Excellent job, but quick question, why did you left unpainted the the back of the drawer fronts?
Excellent work Keith, stunning piece of craftsmanship again
BTW I think you mentioned in one of your older vids "Hew and Awe" table saw recon. I could be wrong but as R&B is one of my main channels I think it may be (or Peter Millard) anyway, that guy is on another level thanks for the tip (or Peter π€£π€£)
Would that paint combo on MDF work well for a shoe storage rack? Perhaps upgrading to MR MDF. Concerned about wet and snowy shoes ruining the MDF, but if that paint combo would keep it alive?
I think you made your wife look rather clumsy. Good video.
