Well …this has been a journey… ever since I painted the first of these a few years ago much has changed, but the enjoyment stays the same!

I only just now realised the parallels to Slapchop, mainly why the technique exists and what the implications for painting are, so I thought I’d put my thoughts on it in video form, while we expand the grimdark series by another chapter.

  9. wasn't a fan at the early stages but it grew on me. I really dig the chainsword. Trying to figure out how to apply this to a bone-color scheme for Craftworld Eldar. Is black primer a must?

  12. Great video, I've learned that I need silver model air now at least 🙂 I was trying to highlight with standard game colour silver and found it very hard as its thick so I'm guessing air is a lot thinner…thank you for that!

  13. Im a big fan of this approach. Its definitely more time consuming and applicable in different places than slapchop (i feel like slapchop works great on textured surfaces wheres this method is almost the opposite) but it undeniably looks better for the extra time invested.

    Particularly love those weapons; I may steal that design next time I find myself painting marines, I've been meaning to start collecting iron hands for a long time.

  20. When it come to a slapchop paint job style. I used a familiar method for the Ironwarrior, Word Bearer ,Black legion and Night Lords models. As to give them grim dark look while looking clean enough look for some one who do regular maintence to their war gear. For me i find acrylique paint and Vehelio paint with some shading work for a grim look. Also to make some of my models look like their gear have a grim dark look that the gear seen better days i like to use a scapel blade and damage the mode for where damage done by a melee blade or a bullet make sense for a mark left on the armor still from a previous fight.

  21. hi any tips for imperial guard like this. i want to paint mine white/grey/blak on fatigues armour etc with a dusty desrt brown/red base. i love the dust you put on the base and his feet. thx
