I lost a game of Warhammer 40k because I CANNOT learn from my mistakes

I’m am the dumbest man alive. The definition of insanity. Why do I do this?

Note about the deployment – neither of us really noticed how forward we set the deployments, we kinda just did it by eye rather than doing it properly. The diagonal deployment zone we drew for tempest of war is more awkward and we weren’t really taking that much care because we just wanted to get a game in. The fact Steve’s necrons were so far forward was probably better for me going first, because it reduced the distance I needed to close. It didn’t affected the game outcome, because of the myriad of mistakes I made instead, so don’t worry about it.

Also yes my minis are still unpainted. Sorry.

  1. i play mostly the old warhamer fantasy skaven and i get into, what i call traffic chaos, all the time bc i love the play of just spamming big units of 30+ models of lowly clanrats.. but then i move them like a monday traffic jam in rush hour and cant get anything done bc im blocking myself with these hugeblocks of infantry – still my favourite style bc i love the immersion of endless ratswarms so much 😀

  2. I play Adepta Sororitas as Bloody Rose, which is also a glass cannon army. I only learned quite late that waiting for your opponent to come closer can be hugely valuable. Just wait with your charges unril turn 2/3. Only real threat are mostly indirect fire units.

  3. sadly even the best strategy can completely fall flat on the floor to just bad dice rolls. I like to use the tau tactics example of Montka vs Kauyon, sometimes i have to remind myself to play with Kauyon. Meaning plan slow and work the later turns to my favor, which I feel like applies to a lot of other games for people. Use your reserves, don't RUSH first turn out the flood gate. (I know some armies are completely tailored to the melee or a fast engage). But I have to tell myself to slow down sometimes to keep control and get the battlefield in my favor.

  4. Yeah i get this. I don't play enough games of warhammer and I play them too far apart to properly learn as I've forgotten most of my lessons by the next game. Been in the hobby for a year and I'm finally putting together a proper army list. Which as an iron warrior player I'm thinking is gonna be two big murder blenders in characters and vehicles and enough cultists to do actions and hold down objectives

Also the picture is the ball is his fear as if he didn't have it he would make the jump fine but cause he does the chain will pull and he'll fall.

  5. I always move stuff and leave myself open to deepstriking units behind my lines. Which is the exact tactic i use every game with my Blightlord Terminators so you'd think id be more aware.

  6. Something I learned from playing legendary iron man mode in xcom2 is relevant to warhammer, since they're both turn based games. Whatever your first plan is, ask yourself, how screwed am I if it doesn't work out? Do you have anything to save the situation if you miss that 72% shot that HAS to work or you're screwed? How good is plan b? If plan b dog shit and you have no way to save plan a if it goes bad, I'd go with plan a. Because its the best and plan b is me putting myself on the defensive. Basic example but in summary, make plan, think of pitfalls, consider how bad the pitfalls are and if you can fix them and either go with plan a or make plan b

  7. I Play Dark angels and just picked up the actual supplement book. Turns out that dark angels specific stuff is incredibly powerful. Pure greenwing isn’t.

  8. One mistake I always make is over estimating my damage. Putting you whole army into the open to kill an elite unit is not a good trade. And don't forget your opponent can use strats too… And they are usually better than yours.

  9. Tip for fast and squishy armies, position yourself do you can charge from behind cover. This way even if you fail a charge you have protection and aren't deleted with light firepower

  10. It could be worse, like imagine making the same mistake every game for all year.

Like, for example, just imagine always vastly underestimating just how much something like ''4+ invulnerable save'' breaks the math of whatever unit you're using to attack that target.

That would never happen to me.

  11. I have terrible luck with my Autobolt rifle intercessors missing most of their shots.

It’s like a scene from MS08th team “Well that looked impressive, now say goodbye to your tank!”

  12. It is possible to commit no mistakes at all and still lose. Honestly you did what you could and taking the heavy destroyers out first was definitely a healthy start to the match for you.

  13. Recently played my first 2 games at 750 and 1000 points with only primary’s for scoring. Maybe as your army is so complex it might be worth dialing it back a bit likewise till you get more comfortable? (Also helps time wise!) And means you can play with more painted models! 😁 Love the content mate look forward to seeing your first win soon!

  14. What I do wrong a lot is not hiding my stuff and being too aggressive. Watch out for LOS and don‘t give your opponent any targets you don‘t need to show him. Especially with Drukhari you are so fast you can easily hide all your stuff and still get everywhere where you need to be pretty fast.

  15. I had a friend who played White Scars. I played several matches against him with both Space Wolves and Death Guard, and I kept underestimating how damn fast they are. They are also hella dangerous in melee, so that didn't help either. I'd either be too aggressive turn 1, getting to mid table but not much further, since both are slow armies whose main issue is actually getting into melee. Or he'd tie me up in my own deployment zone with some turn 1 charges with his Outriders and other fast units.

  16. In my opinion, for tempest of war secondaries are very good and important but they aren't the make or break the game. You can still win the game by capturing objective markers and denying your opponent their secondaries. So what i usually do when i have a game plan and i draw secondaries that are conflicted with my gameplan. If that gameplan would generally keep me in that game and help me win the fight making my units have an easier time scoring points, then i sure as hell would take the plan. Moral of the text : Don't focus everything on secondaries or even a gameplan in that matter as that may or may not have worked as you hope too cause it's a Dice game.

  17. If you are looking for a way to get rid of your leagues of votann box, I have a strong request for it. I also have adhd, and I found your channel while trying to get into this hobby, I don’t have any models yet and I really want to start with votann, but I joined too late to get the army box anywhere for a decent price

  18. i love these videos because they feel like something everyone goes through when they start this hobby.
    pile of shame ?
yup, while i only have one box still in plastic i have the beginning of a CSM army on my paint desk with a very left field paint scheme that will take time a dedication.

    Random buys ?
yup, i think we've all had impulse control problems in this hobby. i have the cursed city box that i don't think i'll ever play, some warcry teams just because i thought they would be fun to paint, and the start of a conquest last argument of kings army that i have no one to play with. not to mention the scored of prepainted and unpainted DnD minis i have from before i started playing wrahammer

stupid moves that lead to lead to getting crushed like a ball of tin foil ?
oh yeah, never leave a truck that has a melee only unit in the middle of no where cause you didn't think they could lose enough it wouldn't matter. sometimes people spike dice so hard it leads to you questioning your life

  19. I started with my world eaters heresy army with 3 pretty appalling looses before I got them working well.

However, they only work well when THEY charge in.

Cue the last game vs a dreadnought-heavy Fury of the Ancients thousand sons.

The one squad that NEEDED the charge made it in, but my two freshly painted neutron laser sabre tanks absolutely 'tanked'. They had ONE job, and failed miserably to wound. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!

Anyhow, I lost again (fury of the ancients vs infantry pretty much guarantees this)

I hope by adding a couple of dreads in my next game, and sticking some objective holding units in transports may save them from the return 1st turn squish.

Anyhow, enjoying your content. That failed charge roll animation kind of made me chuckle lol
