❤✌ Today’s shell adventure – It’s a cool cloud covered morning on the island and we are hitting the beach before the crowds and the heat! It’s supposed to reach 94 degrees today – whoa! We arrived an hour from dead low tide and there were a ton of shells in the rock and sand dollars in the shallows! In addition to the amazing shells, we saw huge a bunch of live creatures today and had some up close views of crabs, hermits, live moons and seagulls! Today’s favorites scores include a unique orange moon shell, ginormous live surf clams, a horseshoe crab and a mega live moon. In addition to all of those awesome finds we hit the jackpot with sand dollars and met some fellow beach combers who were just as excited as we were! Thank you for watching and subscribing! ❤✌ Visiting Plum Island Massachusetts ❤✌

Most IMPORTANT thing 1st: All of the really great shells I find in my videos are inside the Parker River Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge is closing 99.9% of the beaches from April 1st 2022 to August 2022 in an effort to protect the Piping Plover nests. Piping Plovers are endangered and the beaches are closed in an effort to help raise the plover population. When the beaches close, there is no beach access. The 1st gate will remain open, but it’s not good for shelling. At the very end of the refuge (after gate 7) there are the Bar Head Rocks (featured in this video). Those rocks are located on Sandy Point reservation (which is Ipswich Ma and not part of the Parker River Wildlife Refuge.) That section will remain open! It’s VERY good for shelling.

If you want the full Plum Island experience (all 11 miles of beach) – late August, September, October, November and December are great months. The off season is best because during the summer the island is very congested.
The spring is ok, but the weather can be very unpredictable as you can see from watching my videos.

Green Heads: We also have Green head flies that start swarming early July through August. They love the beach and they bite. They are like mosquitos on steroids.

Where to Shell: The Parker River Wildlife Refuge Gates 5 to Bars Head is amazing for shelling.
It’s always best to contact the refuge before booking any trips if you are coming specifically for shelling and the beaches. This way you are sure the gate to the lower lots will be open along with the beaches.
The website: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/parker-river

Where to stay: There are Air BNB’s all over the island, but The Blue Inn is SPECTACULAR. Right on the ocean – I am a huge fan. Newburyport is right over the bridge and it’s perfect for New England Charm. Tons of restaurants, Inns and Air BNB’s.

Where to Eat: There are several restaurants on the island, to name a few of my favorites: The Beachcomber, The Plum Island Grill, Bob Lobster, Georgie Porgies.
Newburyport: Sea Level is my absolute favorite! As well as The Park Lunch.

Other Activities: Plum Island Kayak, Newburyport Whale Watches, Fishing Charters, Surfing, Sailboat Tours – so much fun!

…And if you see me on the beach, be sure to flag me down and say hello!

  2. Could you add the dimensions of the Beach art to the descriptions on ETSY? That little moon snail with a ort hope and an inhabitant. Do you think it felt like be tumbled by the sea waves? LOL Wow that is a lot of sand dollars. What color are they in Maine when they are alive? Thanks for getting your feet wet for me!

  5. ☕️🐚☕️What a fun trip to the beach! I'm always amazed by the amount of sand dollars in your area! I learned something new from you today: a slipper is a type of limpet. And here I thought we didn't have limpets in NJ, but we have lots of slippers. Enjoy your visit with your parents!

  6. Thank you so much, exiting to see all te treasures. We don’t have sand dollars here in Norway. But we have a relative we call it “sjømus” it is round like a golf ball but it is the same pattern on top of it. It’s a seldom to find them whole because they are so fragile 😍
