How villagers of Bahanaga Bazar led rescue efforts moments after Odisha triple train accident

#ThePrintOnGround
As first responders to the triple train tragedy last Friday, the villagers of Bahanaga Bazar had rushed to the spot where the Coromandel Express and the Yesvantpur-Howrah Superfast Express derailed after the former collided with a third goods train parked at the tiny Bahanaga railway station. Using their mobile flashlights and their wits, the villagers worked in the dark to hold the fort until the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and medical personnel arrived. Nearly every villager has a story to tell.

  1. It seems that this is tragedy out of pure human negligence and some persons arrogance due to lack of accountability or at some level attributed to the excess work timings and shortage of staff , whatsoever no prosecution or taking people to task and delay of the cases and other drama at full display seems like!! it is high time that there is closer coordination between the NDRF teams, the army if involved with the local people around the periphery of the accident or any adverse situation to more actively included in the relief and rescue activities and also hope this occurence is seen as stark reminder and rather than inaugurating vande bharat and prospective Bullet train it is high time the essential train journey best practices such as limit the no of passengers per coach and increase the no of trains, the tracks being repaired on war footing , the provision of anti collision systems in all the trains, improving the foot over bridge and other measures need to be taken on priority , rather than blamegame and antics!!

  2. @0:55 dude @VandanaMenon ODRAF is Odisha disaster response force based in Odisha is one of the world’s foremost disaster relief/response team in India.
Ofc they’re often trained based on NDRF’s SOPs. But having proven their mettle during successive cyclones, & other disaster relief ops like Kerala floods & even Turkey earthquakes, the lack of acknowledgement is sad.
The Odrf team has well experienced personnels & have proven their professionalism during several rescue ops throughout India & abroad.

& since you guys are so fond of white man’s validation, I think you’d find it interesting that they’ve been extolled by several orgs & academics in “developed countries” as well.

The constant miss in your (& several other media’s) reportage reeks of pure ignorance & lackadaisical approach towards reporting news.

Odrf is not just another disaster response team.
Even central govt acquires it’s services when a calamity of significant proportion befalls our people.
    Please respect that.

Its shame I’ve to write this long rant.
(Wouldn’t have ranted if it was “just another disaster response team”.)
But some credits must not be missed.

With that being said, kudos to you for covering this in depth.
Hope it motivates our citizens to help our people in such scenarios.

  3. Odisha is known for its disaster management. But we must not forget they keep the alive ones with dead ones assuming they are also dead. A boy survive as he can make a call but he was in morgue for 2.5 days. Think about those who cannot make a call. More than locals the professonals at hospitals must check regularly in morgue for people alive in such disasters. As we all know sometimes the breath and heart seems to be stopped but its not. So if we care for this then we can save few more lives. Else they will be burnt or burried alive. Pathetic right?
Kudos to locals as they save more than 500 lives with their actions and blood donations.
Still request to those who react for images and post on social media than act as per emergency so they can change and contribute to saving lives as well.
