How stupid F1 rules ruined brilliant Verstappen Norris battle

A beautiful piece of motorsport that was interfered with inappropriately. We’ve slightly adjusted McLaren F1 team boss Andrea Stella’s quote there, and we’re using it to make a slightly different point to him as well.
Unlike Stella, we’re not necessarily taking issue with the decision that was made by the stewards regarding Lando Norris’s late-race pass on Max Verstappen at the US Grand Prix.
Regardless of what you think about who was at fault – if anyone – the real problem that was exposed here was that F1’s recent attempts to tightly-regulate wheel to wheel racing are failing.

  1. It was a lot easier back in the day when they raced narrow tracks with gravel traps. Go wide and your race is probably over.

With the massive run offs now the drivers will always push track limits and know that going wide is no big deal as they can simply rejoin and say they were pushed off.

Having enjoyed the peak of modern F1 in the 80s and 90s its hard to enjoy the new hybrid era much at all.

  2. OMG, this video is another fluff piece from The Race. The Apex has nothing to do with anything! Nowhere in the rules is the apex mentioned it is not a drag race to the apex to see who gets there first! This is a gas light from the FIA and all of these clone F1 YouTube channels, that have no idea what they're talking about, so that they can drive a narrative. My God people, download the 40 page rules and regulations on the FIA website! (Yes, yes, I know… it's actually 80 pages, but that's because it's in French and English. If you break it up, it's actually 40 pages that you need to read). Isn't anyone else sick of this horrible display of racing? Other racers did what Max did multiple times in this race and were penalized heavily. George Russell forced car 77 off the track. Of course he got a 10-second penalty for only doing it once. I mean you can understand why he got a penalty right? He ran car 77 off the track while not being Max Verstappen! (😅). Do not believe the gas lighting!!! The F1 rules are all encompassing. They are not "hugely complex" as the narrative goes! I hate what's happening to the sport I've loved for decades. The sport of F1 is pushed to the background; it's all about increasing its entertainment value. With this team says this that team said that, it's a freaking soap opera. I really hope all these new fans get sick of F1, I really do. I thought it was a good thing at first but now I realize the only thing that drive to survive brought to F1 is storylines. Racing is not the main attraction anymore unfortunately. Channels like this only perpetuate this horrible trend. Every new video I hope it's something good but it's always crap like this. Imagine if there was real journalism going on asking real questions. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

  3. So why no penalty for max on lap 63 in Austria – Lando ahead at apex and forced max off – max continued in run off and didn’t give back position. Max then caused collision next lap but fia only gave max 1 penalty not 2 and fia insisted they would have gave Norris a penalty should he not have retired. So again whatever way u wanna slice it fia decisions are inconsistent although suspiciously consistent in being favourable to max and red bull

  4. They both did something wrong – Max forcing Lando off and Lando gaining an advantage whilst off the track. The right solution would have been to penalise them both 5 seconds, and that would also have resulted in the "correct" result with nobody having to change places.

  5. It is clear as water that in this case a 5 second penalty should have been applied to both drivers. The real problem here is corruption within FIA and the Stewards. Every other explanation it is politics bullshit

  6. My issue with this whole scenario is that we are discouraging racing. My other issue is drivers not staying on the track the rumble curbs and run off is not the track. Those areas should be for oops last resort driver error buffer to save the car from walls and traps. We also need instant decisions to either give back or it stands. This scenario Max was in the wrong for running Lando off the track he should have left a car width. For him running wide he should have also received a 5 second penalty.

  7. Well played my friend, subscribing. The stewards are a farce, regulating close racing is a farce, on par with election officials here in the US regulating who is ordained to be elected. Where is Bernie when you need him… I miss Bernie… Would today's rules allow us to see a Dijon '79?

  8. Why is FIA allowing this crap driving where Max can just speed up at the apex knowing he wont make the corner side by side and pushing the other car on the outside off track. This is such a crappy racing craft… invented by Max and idiots are copying… why didnt the other drivers just crashout Max all the friggin time to stop him doing this.
