EMOTIONAL Love Story & Home Renovation Honoring Resilient Soulmates | George to the Rescue

In this episode of NBC’s ‘George to the Rescue’: A heartwarming love story featuring an adventurous couple with disabilities who met during a competitive hand-cycling event and have been inseparable ever since, participating in numerous marathons together. And a jaw-dropping reveal of a time-sensitive primary bathroom upgrade that will help make life more comfortable for them as they take on some current health challenges one day at a time. 💙

Witness the triumph of the human spirit through Maria Bournias and her husband Peter Gagliardo — two inspiring soulmates, who together have weathered some of life’s toughest storms hand in hand — and an accessible bathroom makeover + soothing home sauna space by interior designer Vanessa DeLeon, contractor Albert Dichiara, and more talented contributors! Maria was born spina bifida and has had to endure many daunting surgeries throughout her life. She is currently battling a rare form of cancer but with her supportive husband Peter — who himself has overcome many obstacles after a motorcycle accident left him paralyzed at age 21 — by her side, she continues to trek forward with a courageous and loving spirit.

Many thanks to the following generous teams for making this dream project of a safe, functional bathroom remodel a wonderful reality for Maria and Peter:

  2. Aww, George, you are the absolute best. The people that you rescue are humble and beautiful. Now, with the recycling and giving them a hockey night.
Definitely necessary and worth all the effort to achieve the goal.
    Carry on

  3. When some people complain about trivial matters and rant constantly, your story serves as inspiration for us and everyone else, demonstrating that no matter life's challenges, we must persevere. Maria, we'll be praying for your upcoming operation. Don't let it hinder you from rising and moving forward once more. Both of you are inspirations, and we're rooting for you.

George to the Rescue team, you rock!!! ❤❤❤🎉

    ❤,

  4. Maria and Peter, I hold you in my heart. Thank you for your courage, your smiles and even your tears. You are so loved, by so many. When you were all zooting around in those hand cycles I am sure the angels of heaven were sharing your laughter. George and team, thank you for this wonderful upgrade. You too are so loved, by so many. Hugs from Elm, South Africa. 💜💜💜

  5. Have they heard about [NotAWheelChair] in Utah. They make an electric quad-cycle that would let them go off paved trails and up hills. And it works in snow. (Not an ad)

The wife/co owner is paralyzed from waist down.

  7. Thank you so much, George for recycling good reusable items! Vince Gill would be proud that you are supporting Habitat for Humanity! In my hometown we have a street that honors Vince Gill and his wife that is named in their honor for their effort and support of this great cause. I could tell you the story but you probably don't have time to read it.

  15. Please George, volunteers & contributing sponsors, please keep on keeping on! It’s amazing what you do to better peoples lives! A beacon of light in a sometimes dark world. One commentator said they forgave you George for making them cry. Tonight I’m headed to a birthday party and as I watched this I’m all dressed up & makeup on & now I have to redo my makeup from the damage my crying did! What a glorious love story! Totally get her loving her makeup station. Best wishes on upcoming cancer recovery.
