With the discovery of how powerful LP Brawlers are we needed to hone the fleet design to perfection before I can finish up. Surprisingly EMP is really really handy for crippling the big ships. If you can knock out their engines they are easy to pick off.

Monitors make great screening ships, they have two flak cannons built in for free anyways and can tank near infinite damage with the overrides.

Maybe try Buffalo Mk2 Spam. Expanded Missile, Converted Hanger, Xyphos Fighter, Tac Laser, and all double harpoons.
I put mine ion pulsar with extended magazines on the Harbingers. Phase ships go in phase thru the enemy ship turn un phase just unload into the engines Arcs all over the rest of the systems they just dead in the water. Also takes down shields really well. But once those shields down and they are basiccally stunned you see the rest of the fleet just lock in on that ship and I dunno what ship it is but all I hear is Caaa chunk caaachunk and then something explodes. Probably should go back and figure it out it just sounds amazing.

Francis I feel like you're missing out on a lot of the joy of Starsector by not piloting a ship yourself, combat is the most fun part about this game
a way i found how to avoid the frigates swarming 1 ship is to designate targets its takes some time but it makes ship focus on 1v1 or 2v1 more than swarming, does tend to make the frigates dumb in that they ignore other ships than their targets.
Really would be nice to see you add Ship & Weapon Pack and Tahlan mods to your mod list. They are quite vanilla friendly and well rounded!

Have you tried to use twin blaster Medusa class destroyers as support ships for Brawlers fleet? Normally they could teleport out of troubles if been pushed too hard…
Also, there 5 small energy slots for PD or IR (if you only need to shoot fighters, not to missiles) lasers.
Yes, these ships are rare, but you does not need 10 of them – 2-3 more than enough. Add Legion class carrier as platform for comand point generation (not to mention 3 bomber + 1 heavy fighter wings) – and complete combat part of the fleet…
i always have a ship with an operations center to make sure I never run out of command points. I keep it out of the fight till the end. With no command point problem, I place an “avoid” on big capital ships to keep my ships off them and focus on killing all the escorts. Once the escorts are gone I focus attacks on one capital ship at a time.

I like to go gauss cannon dual autocannons and annihilator rockets on my Manticores
try SO dominator with 2 devastators, it is very fast for what it is and melts literally anything on front of it in seconds, but can be flanked relatively easy, mix with enforcers, should be solid

Every time I see a "steady" captain, I think "just dumb enough to get themselves killed, but not reckless enough to do something useful when it happens."
Monitor with anti fighter missile big boy tank .. brawler for sustained high armor damage, hyperions for emp reducing dmg output.. ohmen and tempest also nice, with tempests beeing the weak point.. then 3-5 bigger ships to get a wall of flesh .. so your frigates can work the flank…. I use two carriers one high range and 2 smaller rocket ships.. but do not deploy them when i don’t fight capital ships or a lot of oompf
