HoI4: Old World Blues – The Maxson Expedition (Part 3)

The Maxson Expedition was meant to be a glorious campaign to the East, investigating the mutant threat and securing technology for the Brotherhood of Steel. Instead, they met with defeat, overwhelmed by the sheer ferocity of the natives. Battered, broken, and suffering from a mysterious madness, they turn their hopes to Andrea Brixley as their Paladin Commander. Can she reorganize this band of Brothers and deliver them to salvation?

  1. One thing I thought would be fun or at least interesting for old world blues if you had access to a hero/Lone wander/Vault Dweller Unit, like the player character in the fallout games. But you dont have direct control, they would be in the background doing quest wandering around in your territory ether improving your land or causing trouble while they level up, but you could influence them by giving them quest by giving items or bottle caps, and getting a slight buff in the process. And if you have enough reputation with them you can summon them as ether a general or a single powerful battlefield unit on the map that is strong based on what level they are and what equipment they are currently using.

  2. Always felt the Followers were a "No duh, I want them" thing. like you can get so much out of supporting them in resources, tech, spare gear, etc. And all that happens is if they get uppity about you being at war (which they might not), you tell them to shut up once and they never bother you again.

So usually by the end the Followers have given me things like plus Manpower, plus Tech, plus Resources, plus Civilian Factories, and really cost me nothing but like 5% war support.

  3. Though man is this episode tense. Mostly because I don't know if Old World Blues changed how Civil Wars and Conquests work out from the base game. Normally in Hearts of Iron 4 what Pravus started with the Hangdogs would see them capitulate… and everything goes to the Wardens he wouldn't have a wargoal on, and any wars against them peace out. And I'm just wondering if he screwed his wargoal away or what now.

Because I've been screwed by that a few times I've tried to opportunistically take advantage in a Hearts of Iron 4 game.

  4. Man, Pravus is gonna have fun with this run. Especially when he realizes how much he needs to fight against Lanius's eventual coming. I personally recommend focusing heavily on Power Armour, Dynamite, Anti Tank, and Robot Production. You have a lot of special forces cap as the Maxson Expedition and benefit from decreased production cost for PA. Robots are great because they save on manpower and train up easily. And Dynamite because if you go into your organization marketplace tab and go to Butcher Pete's, it's available right from the start to purchase. If you need extra suppression, pick up the chem support company and attach it to your garrison force. Though I worry Pravus might not be able to snowball fast enough to fight Lanius.

  5. Pravus, Im not sure if you noticed it or not but to also fix your Circle of Steel situation you have to declare war on the Iron Alliance because they hold the town of New Sterling. Unless Im misunderstanding you need all 3 of them at 100% before you can get Boulder and bring back the members who left.

  6. Man, I tried this and the civil war between the dogs lasted like 1 week and the dogs wiped me out. I had to do it again and get creative to win, then got taken out by the south. This is not an easy campaign. Though I am having even larger issues with manpower.
