Sonic the Hedgehog[a] is a video game series and media franchise created by the Japanese developers Yuji Naka, Naoto Ohshima, and Hirokazu Yasuhara for Sega. The franchise follows Sonic, an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who battles the evil Doctor Eggman, a mad scientist. The main Sonic the Hedgehog games are platformers mostly developed by Sonic Team; other games, developed by various studios, include spin-offs in the racing, fighting, party and sports genres. The franchise also incorporates printed media, animations, feature films, and merchandise.
Naka, Ohshima, and Yasuhara developed the first Sonic game, released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, to provide Sega with a mascot to compete with Nintendo’s Mario. Its success helped Sega become one of the leading video game companies during the fourth generation of video game consoles in the early 1990s. Sega Technical Institute developed the next three Sonic games, plus the spin-off Sonic Spinball (1993). A number of Sonic games were also developed for Sega’s 8-bit consoles, the Master System and Game Gear. After a hiatus during the unsuccessful Saturn era, the first major 3D Sonic game, Sonic Adventure, was released in 1998 for the Dreamcast. Sega exited the console market and shifted to third-party development in 2001, continuing the series on Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation systems. Takashi Iizuka has been the series’ producer since 2010.
While Sonic games often have unique game mechanics and stories, they feature recurring elements such as the ring-based health system, level locales, and fast-paced gameplay. Games typically feature Sonic setting out to stop Eggman’s schemes for world domination, and the player navigates levels that include springs, slopes, bottomless pits, and vertical loops. Later games added a large cast of characters; some, such as Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Shadow the Hedgehog, have starred in spin-offs. The franchise has crossed over with other video game franchises in games such as Mario & Sonic, Sega All-Stars, and Super Smash Bros.
Sonic the Hedgehog is Sega’s flagship franchise and one of the bestselling video game franchises, selling over 140 million units by 2016 and grossing over $5 billion as of 2014. Series sales and free-to-play mobile game downloads totaled 1.6 billion as of 2023. The Genesis Sonic games have been described as representative of the culture of the 1990s and listed among the greatest of all time. Although later games, notably the 2006 game, received poorer reviews, Sonic is influential in the video game industry and is frequently referenced in popular culture. The franchise is known for its fandom that produces unofficial media, such as fan art and fangames.

Here are those DAMN Sonic Prime Reviews I mentioned in the video: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWnodvDLSHxtg4B0MkQQ_YrMFoFrSEGN8
They only showed very similar things for generation so I don't think there will be any new content on the generation part
Ok so hear me out…
What if the 4th Sonic Movie is a Sonic CD adaptation?
Just think about it: they could use the ARK to tease Little Planet + after Robotnik probably certain death in Sonic 3, Stone could use his research on Sonic's quill to create Metal Sonic.
I'm sure it would be better than the year of Luigi 😅
There are more bugs than the hook shortcut in CPZ In the 360 back compat version due to essentially being forced to run at 60FPS.Devil Details who did the original PC port actually went out of their way to fix this. Without touching the code itself this can't be fixed. Back compat uses Direct X wizardry without the code being touched
There are 2 problems with having Shadow be more prominent that SEGA has always struggled with.
1. From a marketing and narrative perspective , Shadow is very similar to Sonic and might take away from Sonic's value. Sonic is supposed to be the main guy, and while he has always shared the spotlight with others in his games (Shadow, Knuckles, Tails, Silver, Blaze etc), he's always stood out. Imo Shadow has as much appeal as Sonic and thusly is a threat to Sonic's marketability
2. From a mechanical/lore perspective, without ramping up the enemies (like in frontiers how it was stated each titan is just way stronger than your average world ending threat like Dark Gaia), it's almost impossible to justify them being a threat/problem for both a Sonic and Shadow, ESPECIALLY if they work together. You'd have to introduce a non physical threat like the metal virus.
Sidenote, introduce the metal virus in the games. Just this time don't make Shadow an idiot
Shadow fanboys RISE UP!
Ultimate life form moment
it was really funny watching them make a bunch of shadow announcements right after the knuckles 30th anniversary 😂
15:34 that looks like radical highway. Also they should also remake the 3ds version as a bonus. The way shadow generations looks makes me wish sega would remake sa1 and sa2 fully in the engine
"Say the line shadow"
"*sigh* where's that damm 4th chaos emera-"
"Yyyyyyyaaaaaaaaayyyyy"
I’m hyped of for game because I’m interested as what they’ll with the ultimate life fourm🖤❤️🦔💪🔫
I think Flame Core would be better for an 06 rep
Okay but hear me out: They put a cover of Live and Learn in the movie, but Johnny Gioeli is a cameo in the film who in conversation says something like, "Live and learn! You gotta open your heart, cause it's gonna be alright!"
It's hilarious in a late 90s-00s scriptwriting sense!
One thing came to my attention lately about remasters is that sometimes the things that need remastering the most end up that way because there's technical issues preventing them from being improved at all.
Like, take Sonic Heroes, which is built on a licensed engine that's now completely defunct — you couldn't really make those changes to it without rewriting all the code from scratch.
If they're really wanting to stick close to the Generations formula with their level choices here I'd expect to see two levels from each game (maybe with some mashed together?) because Generations itself technically had two levels for each game, even if they were just different interpretations of the same stage.
And I'd imagine a realistic total number of "acts" might be seven or eight as opposed to the main game's eighteen, possibly balanced out by a combat loop that's slightly slower, with tougher enemies that encourage players to use all of Shadow's abilities — which will make each stage take a little longer.
Certainly wouldn't be surprised if we see the E-1000s and Egg Hammers from Heroes remade 🙂
So we're just not gonna talk about Shadow going on a DMT trip in this game?
This is just the Mario 3d world + Bowsers fury of Sonic games and im actually kinda hype for it
Prbly a safe bet the Shadow's campaign won't be as long as Sonic's – which I think is 9 stages and 4 bosses in total?
I'll prbly enjoy it whatever it is. I've enjoyed the fast majority of Sonic games I've played, with 06 as the only major exception.
As a shadow (and SA2) fan, sonic prime shadow is one of my favorite shadows, cuz he is more than an edgelord
Sonic fans when colors ultimate is different : MY EYES WHY THIS IS SO SHINY also sonic fans when sonic x shadow gens is almost the same as original: NOOOOOOOO THIS IS VERY BAAD
i cant see them adding a new level to generations considering they'd need two versions of it but i imagine we will probably the pinball and maybe a couple new statues in the gallery?
its likely we'll be able to change sonic's shoes because they have as much history as he does and theres so many variations of them.
To respond to your movie amy casting choice, I'd like to see shannon chan kent get promoted to being a major cast member by playing amy. Her first ever role in the sonic movies was that bar tender waitress in movie 1 and then in 2022 she the voice of amy in sonic prime for netflix. So bringing her on as amy for movie 3 would be a time saver for paramount and sega. If disney/marvel can get the actor who played yellow jacket in ant-man 1 to be MODOK in ant-man 3 then I don't see why paramount and sega can't recast shannon from minor role to major role.
10:26 Where did this scene come from?
Hell Yeah Buddy!
I hope we see Infinite in Shadow Generations
I never played sonic generations so this is a huge W for me 😊
Praying I can upgrade my Steam version to this remaster.
This is the year of Shadow and I'm here for it!
I was literally just thinking right before the Generations reveal that I'd love to play Sonic Generations in full at some point
I will pay 70 bucks just to watch that Shadow Generations trailer again and I'm not lying, even if the Shadow portion is like an hour of accumulated gameplay and cinematics I'll be happy, hopefully they'll handle Shadow well and not like IDW and TSR…
Hayden Christensen has to be shadow. He just got back to star wars and his parts are the best parts of it and people are finally starting to appreciate him. He deserves more love.
My guess is that they're basically making Shadow the Hedgehog 2 with Generations' concept as a template, but want to keep Sonic in the title, boxart, and have some Sonic gameplay because of the reputation of the original Shadow game.
Ill be sad if we cant free play as super shadow
