Heaven Official's Blessing//TGCF: Novel, Manhua, & Audio Drama Review – PART FOURTEEN!

**Headphone Warning**

I knew Qi Rong would be a trash king, but NOTHING could have prepared me for these chapters and the revelations we would get! COUSINS?! Premeditated murder? Xie Lian taking the fall for the sake of his family and the people of Xianle and it going horribly wrong — wait, no, that one tracks. Nevermind.

But Hua Cheng going from tiger to soft kitty with a single shoulder massage for his man, Qi Rong having actual LAYERS to his trash antagonism, and Xie Lian’s actions making more and more sense as Lan QianQiu is drug into the darkness was AMAZING! And…we’re still only on Volume 2, eh? H’okay.

  1. I can just picture a chibi HC using chibi Trash King's head as a basketball – we can have violence if they make it funny like in a Roadrunner vs the Coyote cartoon 🙂

Qi Rong might be crazy, but he's also smart. Smart enough to know that he can do the most damage with absolute truth. He doesn't have to lie and in fact, the bald truth is way more devastating to Xie Lian. They definitely are practiced in dealing with each other, just like family. And we'll have to wait and see what will happen during their next encounter, since QR definitely isn't gone for good.

Now what? Who knows? MXTX is skilled in dragging us along through this twisted maze of a story, never letting us know what's coming. There's the present mess of XL escaping/kidnapped from Heaven, Qianqiu having beeen dealt a crazy blow to his emotions, 500 years of backstory still untold, the Earth Master being rescued from HC's clutches, Qi Rong on the loose now aware of Xie Lian ascending again, Wind Master babysitting the bandaged boy and Banyue, Pei Ming wanting Pei Jr. brought back from banishment, other gods mentioned but not really met yet, we haven't met Black Water, and a whole lot of world left to explore on their next "date".

  2. Thank you for the reaction!

These chapters are just……intense. And just like Ban Yue, XL didn't really have a solution that could satisfy both parties so in the end he chose to take most of the damage and being remembered as evil priest fang xin who slaughtered the royal family of yong an and end up brought to justice by LQQ. (Alexa, play 'the rain of Castamere')

QR is basically the 'bad influence in the family', that one relative who was in and out of prison every other day and still managed to be an eyesore to everyone else. No wonder XL decided to give him one violent lesson himself.

XL to LQQ: there isn't a skeleton in the cupboard named QR, don't worry.
HC: nope there's one right here, but don't worry gege, it'll be buried away like a good skeleton(bashes QR into the ground)

  3. I just love your reactions! And now that we're well away from the stuff that's covered by other adaptations I'm excited to see the plot unfold with fresh eyes since I pretty much forgot everything except the main points of the plot. I haven't read the book in like 2 years so it's nice to get to experience in all again with you ❤️

  4. These recent chapters all just make me want to give Xie Lian a big reassuring hug 😭 The poor guy can never catch a break, can he?

Like you mentioned in your discussion, I absolutely love how we’re starting to peel back the layers of why Xie Lian is the way he is. The complexity of her characters is truly one of my favorite aspects of MXTX’s writing, so I’m loving your analysis of all of this. Amazing reaction and commentary as always!

  5. Typical family dinner and encounter with the in-laws…no?
Ah…Qi Rong, I really didn't miss you. He's quite an…interesting character with a name fitting and seems to have quite a mouth. I swear I've never wanted to silence a fictionnal character on paper so badly before. Just seeing his dialogue was enough to get a starting headache. I don't know what is worse for me: the swearing every two words, the trashy character or the capital letter when he screams ;(so loud). But, thanks for the truth Xie Lian didn't want to reveal, i guess?
The situation with Xie Lian are always heartbreaking and we are only in vol 2 and at the beginning of the mystery… let's bring out the truth and the pain!
Someone said to play the Rain of Castamere, I said for XL bring also Owari no Seraph's ED Scapegoat or OST 108 (Mikaela's). Through the discussion part, the lyrics were resonating in my mind:
    I must be sacrified
so can I help you all?
I'll be your scapegoat if I can
    my resolutions failed
    and all who died
[…] everything has gone so wrong

    ha ha ha 🙂 🙁

it's a shame for WOH but Monster seems to be interesting

It’s been a long time since I read the novel so, for one second even if I know it’s too soon and not the place, the statues I had in my mind were different. Hahaha… XD
Also, I read when it was seperated in 5 books/ main parts so I wonder how it is now reparted between 7 vol

  7. Hua Cheng beating up Qi Rong for insulating Xie Lian/Xie Lian punching Qi Rong for insulting Hua Cheng = Do not talk bad about them in front of each other 😅😆

But really, all these insights into Xie Lian's headspace really makes me emotional 🥺 my precious man!!

  8. Hm… Hua Cheng, who knows for certain everything that happens in his Ghost City (I'm sure!), let Xie Lian go to wild giant worms and other places like that… For me it's kind of strange. He could just let Xie Lian go to some empty rooms (or rooms full of flowers 😀 And beautiful swords)… or just let him find the Earth Master straightaway.

  9. That "it was quite effective" just makes me think of Pokemon 😂
Xie Lian used 'touch'! It was quite effective. Try to capture Hua Cheng?

Agreed, in Qi Rong's death they are the one's that came into his house and give him all this disrespect.

Your excitement at Qi Rong being related to Xie Lian was fantastic!

All the touching between Hualian is just…😍

But the other side of Xie Lian we see with his interactions with Qi Rong is so good 🥰 Xie Lian is like me, talk sh*t about me all you like but be prepared for the consequences if you start on my friends. I need that punch in the donghua!

Lang Qianqiu our favourite himbo! Took him this long to actually realise Qi Rong's mental state. But our himbo boy got pushed just a tad too far by our Trash King. The description of the cauldron scene was pretty gruesome.

Thank you Hua Cheng for those words to Xie Lian! But Xie Lian's whole mindset is rough to read.

  10. Today's chapters are good examples which proved the book is worth reading again. We've already shocked several times and got a lot of information from these chapters, but if someone reread this with knowing the full backstory about XL,HC&QR, he or she probably will get some more new thoughts and feelings. All those conversations and respective reactions of XL,HC,QR,LQQ…oh!
Meanwhile, QR is absolutely hilarious and funny. I definitely need him back to the story to make me laugh loudly.😂😂😂

  11. I think the reason why qi rong hates being called disgusting and vulgar is because he probably thinks he's so much more better than that. In his mind, he's above everyone else and being insulted for everything he does is irritating to him cause he thinks he deserves to be feared of or to be worshipped.

  12. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one thinking about how they are going to adapt these chapters. There’s no way they can show all that for the donghua, even the manhua will probably be no where near as gory, and that’s not even taking into consideration the live action lol.

Yeah, so Qi Rong is Xie Lian’s cousin, I had that spoiled for me so it didn’t surprise me, but it did make me wonder why Xie Lian never linked him to the green ghost. Even with the explanation that ghosts usually change their names, you would think he might have been reminded of his cousin regardless.

Something that I love here is how mxtx writes Qi Ring’s obsession with Xie Lian. I think some people tend to think of Hua Cheng as being obsessed with him, and maybe he is to a certain degree but it’s devotion more than anything else and I think Qi Rong really shows that. Qi Ring’s love of Xie Lian turns to hate as soon as he doesn’t live up to his expectations. But Hua Cheng seems to accept him despite his flaws, and probably even loves him more because he isn’t perfect. I just think that’s interesting, because when you have a story like this it’s easy to dismiss their relationship as being unhealthy if you know nothing about it, but mxtx introduces a character that actually does have an unhealthy obsession with Xie Lian to show just how different his relationship with Hua Cheng is.
