Hate Mail & Death Threats: Alex Murdaugh’s Lawyer Harassed For His Role in Family Murders Trial

Alex Murdaugh’s lawyer, Richard Harpootlian, took to the South Carolina Senate floor today and spoke about the family murders case that shocked the low country. Harpootlian said he received hate mail as a result of representing Murdaugh, with one person wishing he gets “rectal cancer.” The Senator stood firm in his stance to represent the disgraced lawyer, saying he took an oath to do what was in his client’s best interest. The Law&Crime Network’s Angenette Levy has the details.

  1. I’ve only needed a lawyer once, for divorce. If I lied to my lawyer even once she would have fired me. AM lied to his lawyers and made fools of them. Yet they still support him. That’s sus.

  2. I'm sorry but being a high-profile lawyer and politician means you're going to receive threats from online people… Just comes with the territory. Nothing surprising there

  3. I agree that people do not understand the process of the American justice system. Emotions ruin cognitive thinking and they shut down any complete thought process. To those who don t understand or don t like our system, try moving to a one party, one thought rules all like North Korea! Dumbing down Americans….John Adams is my favorite president because he was such a legal mind in a system that worked based on law.

  4. Yes, I thought that Alex Murdaugh was indeed guilty of murdering his son and wife. However, I also believe in his right to a fair trial. We all have that right, though some seem to have it a little more than others. With that being said, the ones sending death treats and bad wishes to this man for doing his job are no better than Alex Murdaugh. Hateful to the rotten core.

  5. Yea people need to get a life . Don’t threaten lives of attorneys or senators for representing defense or prosecution etc etc . Ridiculous . All have the right for defense . No one deserves harassment or threats !

  6. I don’t believe in sending death threats no matter how infuriated on is. None of them are with joining prison for making terroristic threats!

This attorney spent weeks attacking SLED (don’t get me wrong they made mistakes and they didn’t adhere to the same protocols that everyone else should be held to which needs to be fixed) and the same law enforcement he pretty much corrupt and unprofessional he probably would want to investigate threats made to him. He could have been critical but the defense focused so much on SLED you would have thought they were on trial for murder!

  7. Literally every prosecutor or defense attorney or any counterpart to them are going to get these things from 50% of their cases. Unsurprisingly, it'll be from the people they beat or the lunatics that think making these threats is a good idea.

  8. Why not blame Alex for this case? He got on stand and was not credible and could not convince the jury of his innocents. The judge knew Alex was guilty (weave of lies). Alex can't remember the last conversation with Maggie and Paul, but can remember other details about the case.

  9. He’s obviously bitter because he did a crappy job and alienated the juror because he was so heartless and cruel with some of his questions. Mr. Big shot fell on his face on one of his last trails and made a fool of himself. He’s part of the good ole boys network that fell apart after Alex lost his mind

  10. I kept wondering who this attorney for Alex Murdaugh sounds like and think his voice sounds like Willie Nelson. Willie has a distinct voice. Listen to it and Willies and see for yourself.

  11. everyone’s bringing up the video that somehow confirms his guilt..? i guess no one really watched the actual trial they just see everyone else talk about the video and think oh well that must be it. IMO there’s so much more to this. and the fact that he was found guilty in only 3 hours completely destroys my hope in the judicial system. Guilty means confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt. I strongly believe AM did not do this but he knows who did.

  12. Big Papa Randolph Murdaugh was also a crook & was the mentor and protector of Alex Murdaugh..Papa Bear always helped Alex & his sons to get away with crime..Even if Papa Murdaugh did not exactly know of Alex's schemes he always got his back..When Papa Bear was out of the picture, Thats when Alex's schemes started to crumble

  13. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, but anytime there’s a high profile trial like this one, either the District Attorney or the lawyers are going to get bad remarks on the Internet. He needs to just get over it and quit reading comments.

  14. I don't believe this attorney one little bit; I think he saw how (initially) Alex Murdoch got sympathy when he seeked it and thought he'd try the same plot by claiming he'd had death threats. He really was a piece of crap all through the trial and completely disrespectful to many people.

  15. While it is quite understandable how Mr. Harpootlian would now want to be Crying in his Beer.
However, it is disrespectful and even more unethical to bring his legal wounds to the Floor of OUR U.S. Senate to air them out.
Mr. Harpootlian … Please let's not forget that we are a nation of Laws and Order… eh?

  16. That’s what he’s using the senate floor for?? After he puffed up his chest and made this big-ego statement about not doing this very thing, there he is on stage, in all hypocrisy. 🙄
