According to the director, Vince McMahon, the owner of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), refused to participate in the film after the fallout from the Montreal Screwjob . The director also stated that WCW contacted the filmmakers and offered to pay for the lawsuit at an estimated cost of $750,000, but also offered a pay-per-view deal for the film and long-term distribution on the Turner network . However, McMahon feared how he would be portrayed in the film and refused both. My friend bought a DVD copy of that Survivor series and we were ticked off because they removed the footage of Brett air writing WCW. Maybe it was a work. If so, it's the one angle I fell for, hook line and sinker.
The thing that I didn't like about the documentary was that there wasn't a single word about the death of Brian Pillman, a guy who looked up to the Hart family as his own extended family. I understand that the documentary was about Bret, but you'd think that they would at least have had some kind of In memory of type wording on the screen…
Wwf already signed away the rights to bret in 1996 to film behind the scenes, it was part of his deal of him resigning, the documentary makers stopped filming in early 1997 as it wasn’t progressing as hoped , the later in mid year they began filming again as bret had worked up some drama and I suspect knowingly went into it to get scewed so he could get pity, get story for the doc makers and claim he never really lost also, a very selfish guy to the company and dressing room that all did the job for him over the years
I believe that Vince allowed Bret to bash WWE in various interviews because it related to the current storyline at the time, and it reached out to a more diverse audience. Art imitating life….
If you watch the scene in Detroit in 1997, there was a kid who had put his hand on Brets head when he was greeting fans after the match. He has a pink Bret wrist band on. That kid was me, lol. I couldn’t believe how Jacked Bret was. His shoulders were like Cannonballs.

Classic pro wrestling documentary
Why aren't you on camera? Just curious
I got this on vhs when it came out and the cd soundtrack
What surprised me was in that there is a scene in a limo with the harts hanging out with the honky tonk man- but years later bret criticized him.
