My suggestion, in retrospect, is to do what all the chess streamers do. Show the board as an inset, so it's easy to follow the game. You could even get fancy, and put up an analysis of the position, with an eval bar. Well, that's what chess fans are used to seeing, in countless online chess videos in any case. Props for calling pawns as "prawns".
