Guns in Stalker GAMMA – A look at the spreadsheet

Again as with the Armour video this is more to point out the weapon spreadsheet exists so please look through it yourself too! But I do go over the tabs here for those who are interested and continually reiterate the point its all about bullet caliber 😉

  1. The FN Five Seven is the best pistol in the game by far. It is expensive, rare and uses an extremely rare and expensive ammo, but it has a huge magazine, shoots insanely fast, far and acurate, low recoil, high damage and can be upgraded to full auto shooting and be silenced. You will use it rarely at that point but if you need to switch to it, it saves your life. Best late game pistol.
Best late game shotgun is the USA-Saiga 12 ISG. Powerful and acurate, huge magazine, rapid fire, fast reload, low recoil, cheap ammo. If you find this rare weapon, you will never switch to something else. It shreds mutants and Monolith alike and can even be silenced.
The SVD Lynx is imo the best rifle to complete that set for mid/late game. It is a DMR, so can be used as Assault rifle and sniper rifle for medium and long distance, use the Saiga for close range. It shoots fast, has high damage and is insanely accurate and packs enough punch to quickly down all late game threats with precision. And it can be silenced as well. There are more powerful sniper rifles, but you very rarely need super long range anti material rifles and the LYNX can also be used in closer combat situations and shoots fast powerful roungs with its huge 20 rounds magazine.

With these three weapons, nothing can stop you.

For early to mid game, use the AEK 931 as assault rifle for close and mid range fighting. It shoots very fast, uses cheap ammo, almost no recoil, can use many scopes, and kills everything till late game. It is by far the best 5.45 ammo weapon and can be obtained quite early if you are lucky. I once got one day 1 in Cordon from a soldier.
If you like to trade more punch for more recoil, go with the FN FAL or the SCAR during mid game.

  2. I am using Mosin Nagant with scope which I considered beginner rifle but it is surprisingly effective it is at long range and makes game much easier.

Now that I am seeing that 7.62x 54 AP rounds are the most powerful in the game (except Gauss and 50 bmg), whose status I didn't knew was this supreme I am surely am carrying it everywhere. Seriously why give it so early in game.

  3. I agreed where there is no “meta” weapon because of how limited ammo can be for your character for different runs
Where as maybe there could be a “meta” starting load out, like i always start with the 9×19 smg option whenever i start a run but just because it’s a good pick doesn’t make it a “meta” option
Which is why Stalker Gamma is possibly the most balanced open world survival game out there

  4. Huge fan of the SCAR, like you were talking about, but it really requires a reliable secondary because of the ammo economy. Can't go blasting away with it too much or you'll be out of ammo in no time. My current mid-lategame loadout is a half-upgraded SCAR with one of the 9×19 pistols upgraded to full auto, mostly to carry HP for mutants, and one of the 545 AKs for close quarters.

  5. Only way i know of increasing BR class is with the use of the upgradable armor plates. Basic Green gives no BR, upgraded green gives +1 BR class, then black and upgraded black give +2, and +3 BR class respectively.

You can also stack the plates as well, so if you wanted to stack five upgraded black plates for +15 BR class, you can.

Each plate also gives increasing ballistic and explosive res.

  6. Found a UMP .45 yesterday, immediately fixed it up. Tears through mutants like anything with the hydroshock ammo, even chimera went down fairly easily.

  7. Hi, Gamma tester here. Saw this and figured i'd drop a comment and try clear any unknowns that come up.

firstly, the sheet isn't just outdated it also includes a large number of guns that are not intended to normally spawn in gamma. Many vanilla guns as well as unnecessary variants (like the black basic SCAR) have been removed from most spawn lists (some spawn lists got missed and will be addressed later). the category this impacts the most is vanilla NATO AR's where the FN2000's, LR300ML's, vanilla SCARH's, and vanilla L85's aren't obtainable, though there are some notable removed guns outside of that like the USAS you mention directly.

i'd also like to say that the tooltip damage is based on a calculation that uses the weapon's "default" ammo type (FMJ for most guns, buckshot for shotties) and is only useful for damage comparisons against mutants if both guns use the same caliber. HP ammos have different damage modifiers as well as varying mutant-specific damage modifiers. Vs stalkers this factor doesn't really matter as besides rare exceptions FMJ and AP have the same damage and have no hidden mechanics that change that.

  8. My only complaint so far is the inaccuracies on calibers.
.51 and 54r are practically the same ballistically.
Another Example being the WA2000. These were made ONLY in 300 Winchester magnum, which is a few steps under 338LM, and a few steps above 54r.

My first two days in gamma have been going through the files and correcting the almost completely wrong ballistics.

Soon…I will start my playthrough. But as a prior gunsmith, accurate ballistics and calibers is the most important aspect of guns in a game.
