Growing Old Together | Review of Star Trek TNG, episode 207, “Unnatural Selection” with Dr Mohamed Noor | T7R #239

❤❤❤
TNG was and will always be the best Trek.
Dr. Noor! 😃
This episode and Rascals ask the question, why couldn't the transporter give Nog back his leg? Dramatic impact is the answer.
wow, what an extra fabulous The 7th Rule! yay for Dr Noor
Why is it controversial to talk about DNA manipulation in America in the year 2023?
Geneticists are outright evil….have you seen some of the these sick experiments these crazy scientists are able to do..??..
Be careful when you speak of politics and current event..nobody ever want to have the wrong opinion…and also people dont want to be lectured to
I always love diving into the science part of science fiction and there's no one better than Dr. Mohamed Noor to do it with!
Thanks for having me on the show! Super fun chat! ❤🖖
Of course when Mohamed said It's hard to recall a Star Trek geneticist that wasn't a villain, I immediately want to argue. But he's right. Considering it's hard to think of any acutely specialized scientist that's not a villain, could explain why. Daystrom. Korby. Lester. Soran. But McCoy and Crusher are geneticists too. By the 23rd century and beyond, it's reasonable to expect… esoecially with the reduced emphasis on mediums of exchange… these specialists will be immersed in an environment of ethical review, and phaser loaded starships packed full of red shirts who shoot first and ask questions later hopefully don't get involved. And then there's Stamets. Like McCoy, finds himself at the cutting edge of a double edged Discovery with so much hope for the universe but learns, as Spock will later say, "It's easier to destroy than to create."
Regarding DNA files … the show predated the completion of the Human Genome Project.
Great ep!
My guess is that they said no to them being genetically engineered just because genetically engineering humans is illegal (due to Khan and the Eugenic Wars), but scientists may still try to find loopholes to basically do genetic engineering while staying clear of prosecutors.
It might be kind of like when Rand Paul was asking Fauci about Gain of Function Research and Fauci insisted there was no gain of function research based on a particular definition that Rand did not agree with.
❤😊Dr. Pulaski looked so old. Captain Picard was not willing to accept the loss of his chief medical officer. It was a virus in the episode aboard the ship USS Lantree when the crew were dead.
Besides Man of the People when Deanna Troi looked so old & grey she was behaving wild badly. When the crew was talking about killing Deanna Troi. Then she was resasitated back to normal & Alkar was dead.
