  1. Great series. Despite the heroism, the GWOI is a very sad story. So much suffering, it's astonishing that there were surviving Greeks by the departure of Ibrahim from the Peloponnese

  3. The desire for influence within the new state of Greece is under-highlighted. For example, it was the French (with British consideration) who arranged for members of the Mavromichali family to assassinate Kapodistrias, promising their family to rise as autocrats thus replacing the capable diplomat. There would be no Greek state if Kapodistrias was not successful in his Russian campaign, convincing Tsar Nicholas to enter the war in Greece’s favour. Whilst Greeks should forever be thankful to its Philhellenes whose efforts were largely selfless, the governments of the British and French commonwealths are in large part to blame for the chaos which young Greece experienced during the years of revolution and shortly thereafter. Particularly the government in London, which profited from immensely high interest rates they imposed on the financially devastated revolutionary nation. In addition to gaining independence, the Kingdom of Greece was still beholden to the Ottoman sultanate for several years; paying the Ottomans reparations for lands lost. There is so much in the fine print of this history. K&G thanks for covering this subject!

  4. A very sad loss of land for us Turks. We lost a part of the Aegean. In addition, many of our citizens were residing in Peloponnese and current Greece. Even Atatürk, the founder of the modern Turkish state, was born in Thessaloniki. Therefore, the events should not have ended in such a disgraceful way. The Greeks acted very brutally, backing them with British, French and Russian support. They stole our rights in Cyprus, Crete, 12 islands and a whole peninsula. They led to the deportation of our citizens. I also desire a world where no one's rights are defeated, but what should a people whose right is defeated should resort to? Because of this attitude of the Greeks, these results are still not resolved. It seems that it cannot be solved without a weapon. Unfortunately. I hope the law works and everyone gets their due

  5. If you know anything about the Greek City States in ancient times, that guy in the south being like Fuck off with these taxes and governors we’ll rule ourselves is the most Greek thing ever. Being subjected by so many empires for so long they never truly lost that ancient fire.

  6. Never forget the Albanians (Arvanites, Souliotes etc) that had a enormous part in liberating what Greece is today from the Ottomans.

Many brainwashed people will be triggered by this fact.

  7. There was an event that really ended the Ottoman empire. Of course it's a special day for the Greek people and I respect it as a Turkish citizen. but i want to ask when will we get rid of politicians and live together as brothers?
