it is not unavoidable as a melee. you can cheese this fight so easily by just running around resummoming all the NPCs every time they die and staying away from radahn until they all chip away his health. you maybe have to swoop in and smack him a couple times here and there but you don't even need to get off your horse. of course, someone like you would probably rather not because you like the challenge of running up in front of one of these hulks and just fighting him head on
I'm fairly new to the souls games and only completed ds3 before this game. There was no way in hell I was going to even attempt this boss properly. I just summoned someone wayyyyy higher level than me to kill him quickly. Just proves how much of a beast he is.
Sorry, but my all-time favorite part of this fight is summoning Patches, and him just immediately NOPEing out of the fight once he realizes what is happening. It makes me chuckle every single time.
Another interesting aspect of the fight is how it redefines "honour" in souls games. Normally, it means to beat the boss solo, no help, but here we've got Big Boss Chadahn telling you "There is honour in fighting alongside your comerades. Come forth, brave warriors". I beat it alone and I can of regret it, missing the epicness of seeing my dudes going uphill to have a turn to face the bravest warrior. It is like FromSoft saying "It is ok to summon friends. It always was", and I love them for that
Radahn made me appreciate ashes of wars even more, and magic to a certain point. As a simple melee user, and going into the fight lower than i probably should have been (I just wanted to progress through Ranni's quest), I sought to level up more and get something that would provide more of a punch.
I had a dragon communion seal. So I went to the dragon communion nearby. Dragon fly breath looked nice. And since Radahn had the rot, maybe it would help? Unfortunately my FP was too low, among other stats. Good thing Godrick's rune boosts stats.
So before I did all that, it took me a few hours before giving up the day to leave and do something else. Went to sleep, then work later. Didn't play until the day after. Went in with what I got, the fight took me probably less than 7 or so minutes first try.
So now I'm leveling my FP. Got blood ashes, which do great damage. Which also means my sword does blood loss damage, which makes it even better.
The other games I'd walk away to not return, with the exception of Demon's Souls (OG and remake) and Bloodborne. But even then I haven't been as engaged as I am now with Elden Ring. Just the freedom alone to do all that is what I love. And once I finish Elden Ring, I think I'll go back to the Dark Souls games and finally finish those.
I quite clearly remember his soldiers tearing me a new one when I arrived at the castle. Not really sure where you get that there are no soldiers to attack you
I was honestly most looking forward to this boss. But fighting him was honestly kinda disappointing. The whole setup is cool and its really sick how you summon companions to make it this large scale battle but its quite boring. His arrows do enough damage to one shot you (I had 40 vigor and full knights armor on) and some of his normal swings do enough to nearly one shot you. And on top of all that he has a move where he leaves the battle and comes back to one shot you, or someone else, with a move you litarally cannot dodge. You can try to run from it and hope it doesnt hit you but you cant garuntee that you dont get hit by that move. Tbf I have been feeling like this with nearly all the end game bosses exept for a few. And it truly feels like something in the game is bugged at the moment.
Melania was promoted as a Hero. Turns out she is a villain and probably the biggest Villain in the game being the cause of Caelid's destruction. Radahn was promoted as a villain. A beast. Turns out to not just be a hero but also despite his appearance one of the most wholesome and tragic characters. The man who stopped Melania from destroying everywhere else.
A man who inspired such loyalty that his subordinates throw a festival in order to give him an honourable death because without it he cannot die and will eternally wander unable to think or feel anything except for hunger. Such an amazing character and despite this fight being a pain… beating him felt like an accomplishment, it felt like it had an impact more than any other boss in the game.
Sure, the lore is awesome, but he looks fucking retarded on that god damn steed, all because why, they couldn‘t give him a good walking animation? Fight itself is lame too because of his running around.. meh
Idk why people cry about Radahn being too hard. Yea he’s a tough battle but I don’t think he does anything unfair. All souls bosses are difficult you just have to know how exploit their weaknesses
Doing him solo was one of the best experiences ever. While not as hard as Malenia, this was the most epic fromsoft battle from an aesthetic, thematic and presentation point of view
i even loved elden beast in this game, obviously its a chore running after him but i did 1 run with a mage where i had loretta's mastery, and it was so cool when elden beast was using his ring attack in the sky and i was charging my shots to hit him then dodge his attack, and radagon was also amazingly fun to fight , this game has only like 3 to 4 bosses i disliked the rest i either loved or just liked it , i just need a DLC now for this crack of a game
Wow…its so interesting to me that people like this boss. This fight is a huge disappointment for me. The fact that he rides a tiny horse is so immersion-breaking and ridiculous to me, I just couldn't take it seriously. Its even worse when you start to fight him and he starts spinning and glitching on his horse 🙂 Some of his attack animations are not even in sinc with the horse, when he starts spinning the horse just lags behind, it looks so stupid…Anyway, its probably just me. This game has the best and the worst boss fights Fromsoftware evere made, Radahn being one of the worst for me.
NG+ is where a lot of things really feel balanced to me. I wasn't one shotting bosses I had missed the first time through nor were they smearing me across the room. Don't get me wrong. Your first playthough is magical. But after the sence of unknowing wares off and you can look more objectively at a fight they are WAY more enjoyable. It's like they say "Your first time is never the best, but it gets better the more you do it." That goes for boss fights to it seems wink wink 😁

Check out his portrait in the volcano manor.

Radahn is a total chad

This guy was such a chad that the moment he dies a Meteor comes crashing to earth…. He literally stopped the stars. Absolute beast.
Artorias And Sif, Radanh and Leonard, some of the most wholesome pet and master duos ever.
Makes killing Malenia the Severed even more fun

Hoping we would fight a prime version of Radahn, like in Sekiro the Inner versions of Bosses.

I like how how malenia can't beat radahn and then a nameless tarnished just cheesed radahn.
