Gay Good Boy Reacts to *QUEER AS FOLK* Season 1 "Premiere" & "Queer, There and Everywhere" (1×1-1×2)

Gay reaction to QUEER AS FOLK season1 episode 1 & 2 “Premiere” & “Queer, There and Everywhere”.

I have a lot to say about these episodes of *QUEER AS FOLK*, and I hope you enjoy watching my reaction as much as I did filming it!

I’m always happy to see representations of queerness in media that reflect my experiences accurately and without prejudice. This series has done a great job of doing that so far and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

  1. I’m so glad you’re watching this show. It’s one of my all time favorites. I can’t wait to see what you think of the later seasons.

As far as the main cast, I’m pretty sure Randy Harrison (Justin) and Peter Paige (Emmett) are gay but I think the others are straight. That in itself is amazing. You have to remember this was before Brokeback Mountain. The idea of straight actors like Gale Harold and Hal Sparks kissing other men (with tongue even) and simulating sex was almost unheard of. What few gay characters there were before then were usually played by gay actors and they certainly weren’t making out on screen.

As far as the show being problematic, yes, there are things on the the show that we now know to be problematic but society has evolved since then. We’ve learned how to be better people and we’ve learned more about how to treat people with respect. As your friend said in his message, this show was a representation of what was going on at that time. I think that’s why the remake wasn’t renewed. What worked 2 decades ago, just doesn’t work now. But that doesn’t mean any show made with 20 years ago that conformed to societal standards then had no value and should be thrown out because it no longer conforms to today’s societal standards. I think the opposite is true. Watching these shows should give us hope. If we’ve evolved so much as a society in 20 years, imagine how much better things can be 20 years from now.
