Gabriel's Oboe (Nella Fantasia) ("The Mission", Ennio Morricone) – Piano Cover

“Gabriel’s Oboe” is the main theme for the 1986 film “The Mission”, directed by Roland Joffé. The theme was written by Italian composer Ennio Morricone. In the film, the theme is most prominently used when the protagonist, the Jesuit Father Gabriel, walks up to a waterfall and starts playing his oboe, aiming to befriend the natives with his music so he can carry his missionary work in the New World. The theme is one of the most beloved tunes of modern time. Well received amongst critics, it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score and earned Morricone the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. Later, vocalist Sarah Brightman convinced Morricone to allow her to set lyrics to the theme to create her own song, well known as “Nella Fantasia” (“In My Fantasy”).

This piano arrangement is based on the version by Italian pianist and composer Mercuzio.

  1. Thank you Lovily, Thank you for sharing with us this wonderful piece by Enrico Morricone. I have a deep attachment to this song. It reminded me of a video about four years ago, when so many lives were lost due to an infectious disease that spread around the world, I saw a video of playing this piece on the roof of a hospital for exhausted medical workers in Cremona Italy. (URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=af1c_zEemvQ) And I think that the movie "The Mission" expresses the important element that religion gives to human beings, namely the strength to face fate through faith, and the freedom that indigenous peoples are also children of God and that faith gives them. Thank you again for your wonderful performance. Wishing you and your family a good health, peace and happy week! With a lot of gratitude, Lucky❤‍🩹🙏❤‍🩹
