Freedom's spirit

I made this art piece in 2021. After I cut the slices quite a few of the pieces were broken so rather than throw them out I just went with it and started breaking even more of them – making the broken pieces the theme of the art. Working with free wood gives me a sense of freedom, like “Hey, what do I have to lose if this doesn’t turn out?” And as sometimes happens – after I made it I thought “hmmm, is this good enough to make a video of?” I wasn’t sure if it was up to speed with the other art projects I was creating around the same time so I held off on making a video of it and hung it up in my office. Over the last couple of years I’ve been looking at it every day and over time it has really grown on me and I’ve come to really like it 🙂

  1. I get it!!!!!!!!!!!!! For you it was like a song / poem you wrote for an album / book and you held it back because it was not part of the theme of the collection for that album / book…. and it may never will be but in your mind it is special… not your typical song / poem of yours…. Great Work Thou!!!!…. I hope you kept the nails for recycle iron or another project!!! Fancy Saw!!!!!

  2. Scott you really made that look easy – but there is a lot of effort and hard work in this piece! Your vision is awesome, who else could make such a piece of art out of a fencepost. Thanks for another inspiring work.

  3. Hello Scott. Thanks for showing this video. I like the way the four squares are positioned together in the centre, and the rest are randomly placed around it. The texture of the wood is enhanced by the torch and gives it a look of pottery. I collect stuff as well. I am sorting through a box of mesh fruit bags. I have used some of them for art, but I have way too many, so now I am going to use them as a cushion filler. Nothing wasted. Thanks for the inspiration. ilona
