Neo-feudalism and the Middle Class Crises | Joel Kotkin

John is joined by Joel Kotkin to discuss neo-feudalism and the American middle class’ declining faith in democracy, as well as the burden they’re facing as a collective.

Joel shares his concerns about how American society is becoming more feudalistic, with various inequality crises exemplified through the concentration of wealth and the ascendency of the so-called ‘expertocracy.’

Joel Kotkin is the Roger Hobbes Presidential Fellow in Urban Studies at Chapman University and the author of ‘The Coming of Neo-Feudalism’. He is described by the New York Times as “America’s uber-geographer”, and is internationally recognized as the authority on global, economic and social trends.

  1. The merger of corporation in government is the text book definition of fascism. You will also find many Americans willing to move to Russia because they are more free than us.

  5. Libertarianism is Not about not caring about other people.. it is about human interaction being based on voluntary agreements between people – and it are libertarians who actually understand that voluntary- non-coercive- non-violent interaction works best when people actually do care about figuring out how to benefit the other person –

  6. So, here's the economic deal of capitalism in America: Forbes Magazine 2017 reports that 3 men have a combined net worth greater than the net worth of the bottom 50% of Americans. Those men are Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Jeff Bezos. Writer Noah Kirsch.

And 60% of the students in the top 20 American universities, had parents in the economic top 1%.

So basically America is a caste-based feudal system. Capitalism is the greatest wealth producing system in history. It's also horribly unfair, exploitive and mostly benefits the top 20% of Americans. We all know we can do better, we can have a very solid middle class, where pretty much everyone has a really good, decent life. The elite don't want that. Why? They are horrible people.

Joel Kotkin is a real hero. Exceptional man. Gives me hope, there are still good people around.

  7. We as elders squandered the benefits of prosperity we inherited.Refused to parent our children. Abandoned manners courtesy and commonsense. Replaced communion with tribal community, personality with identity, modesty with hedonistic instant gratification. We are a slow boiling frog of a species and the water's getting warmer!

  10. If the Chinese government can take away private property at any time is it really private property? More like a licence from the state to use their goods until you contradict their viewpoints.

  11. Haha you think these lunatics will allow you to have gas filling stations in California in 2040? You may have the car but they won't let you drive it.
As for the metaverse is this meant to replace real life? In which case what is the point of living? You will end up with a cocked up world if people only engage with other people and the world once in a while. And the whole idea behind lotscof time on the metaverse must be that you don't have to work. At all. A socialist wet dream but ultimately an empty useless and meaningless existence.
