  1. Such a beautiful singer britt, but I don't think you have reacted yet to the best female singer celine dion? Try all by myself ( live in boston)her range of voice is beyond words.

  2. If you want to be shaken to your core, listen to her live version of Me And A Gun, a song about her being raped when she was 21. The silence between her words is the loudest thing you'll ever hear.

  3. She’s had a rough life with love of a significant other and self love , her dad asks when she’s going to love (herself) as much as he loves her. As a dad of daughters that are my life this hits so hard.

  4. Please check out Northern Lad, Tear In Your Hand, Silent All These Years, Crucify, Everybody Else's Girl, A Sorta Fairytale, Little Earthquakes, Playboy Mommy, 1,000 Oceans, Pretty Good Year and Me and a Gun (Please have kleenex handy though for that one. ) I realize that is a long list of suggestions but you will love them lol! Tori is a game changing, life changing vibe on a whole other level from other artists. She changed my life. ❤

  5. Tori Amos is magnetic. I think she could sing and play the phone book and mesmerize her audience…. but she sings great songs, so we get truly lost in a good way. Great reaction.

  6. This song makes me bawl every time. Tori can rock a piano.

This transition through life, the relationships we have, and having a father's love and support is absolutely enchanting.

Tori is in a cannon of her own. Makes sense that she's very good friends with Neil Gaiman, Maynard James Keenan, and Trent Reznor.

  7. Tori Amos is brilliant! You'll struggle to find a rubbish song of hers, she is so talented.

🎵 Artist and Song recommendation: Matt Corby, with his song "Brother" (the live for Like A Version video). It's epic, I think you'll be blown away.

  8. Tori is amazing, and this is probably one of the simplest songs in her catalog. Winter is just such a beautiful, touching song. I would recommend Precious Things and Cooling from the Sessions at West 54th concert. Cooling is pure magic, imho. She has written a crazy amount of great music. The Tori Amos rabbit hole is almost a bottomless pit! 😂

  9. Tori is a brilliant composer, singer, storyteller, healer, songwriter, artist, soul, and a goddess 💎. She heals whatever mood I am in and she places so much emotion into her music. Please do more 💗 💫

  10. Back in the late 90's I had the BIGGEST crush on Tori Amos. Some of her songs, like this one, are almost gentle, with a deeper longing for truths most people ignore. Others full of despair, or rage, or even triumph, all aspects of her life.

Just… just skip over "Y Kan't Tori Read", her career had just started and she didn't really have control over her music when that was made.

  11. Born Myra Ellen Amos, changed to Tori later, crawled up to a piano at the age of 2 and just started playing, by 3 she was able to duplicate songs she'd only heard once, by 4 composing her own music, and at age 5 she was the youngest person to this day to get a scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Tori was also kicked out of that program at age 11 for what she called musical insubordination, she refused to learn to read sheet music, she preferred to play by ear, and she preferred rock and roll to classical music. Tori has said she had a form of synesthesia where she sees compositions as structures of color and light, and she sees her songs as actual, fully formed characters, her "girls" as she calls them, and sometimes they fight for a place on the record, or decide not to be, just as sometimes they show up to the show she's playing, or they don't, it's up to them.

  12. Love her music, a true artist and her dynamics are top notch. wish i had 1% of her ability let alone her control of said ability. One of those musicians that make you realise 30+ of playing an instrument might as well have been 300 years i'll never be that good. Ok got to the end and i'm still lmao to "Rebellious disney princess song" I think that might sum up Tori Amos very well.

  14. Britt, the first time I heard Tori Amos was from the Under the Pink Album which came out in the early 90's and I was sold. My favorite off that album is "Yes, Anastasia", "Pretty Good Year", "Past the Mission" "Bells for Her" She has an awesome catalog. Love the reaction it is spot on.

  15. I'm an enchanted by your reaction…cause you get it. Tori Amos is a true child prodigy. She learned to play before she could walk at age two. Sixteen albums and over a thousand live shows performed. She's playing two shows at the Beacon theater at the end of june. Hope you get to see her. Life changing experience.

  16. Tori’s use of breath, volume, and lyrics is incredible — especially in her live performances. Most of her songs (at least on the “Little Earthquakes” album) is very introspective, addressing internal conflict and (internal and external) struggle. A true masterpiece. I suggest checking out “Silent All These Years”, “Crucify”, and …. when you’re ready, the chilling “Me and a Gun”.

This is my first time seeing one of your reactions and I really enjoyed it. Keep it up!

  17. You seem to have appreciated the performance, which says a lot in favor of your good nature. 🙂

I could go on and on about Tori Amos. I often do in these comments. But I'll hold back and just say that Tori has been my favorite artist of any genre since 1996. Her music stands apart from that of any other artist for me, and her lyrics have broadened and deepened my understanding of so much about life, and her musical compositions are visionary experiences for me–truly unlike the work of any other artist.

Since you appreciate this song, you should invest time (and some effort) into listening to her entire musical catalog and taking the music seriously.

I wouldn't compare her lyrics to Shakespeare's poetry—that would be foolish—but the subject matter of her music does span the entire breadth of humanity that Shakespeare's writing explores: the nature of being, romantic relationships, familial relationships, sisterhood and brotherhood, the corruptive effect of power, religious organizations, spirituality in endless dimensions, ruthless, unmediated introspection, wrath, fury, grace, lust, the inexplicable drive to be cruel sometimes against one's own desire to behave that way…just endless.

You are right in saying that Tori's music is about her music. That's how she describes herself: she is a musician above all else. But her words are the words of a poet, an essayist and a philosopher. And her approach to music is unlike that of most others: she says that songs appear to her as "filaments of light" (she has synesthesia) and she translates those apparitions faithfully through her piano and then arranges them into compositions. So if something seems otherworldly, or "enchanting," about her music, that's because it's enchanted.

  18. A true artist. Her own personal writing, her skills as a musician (she often plays piano and keyboard at the same time) add so much authentic emotion compared to "just good singers". On top of that her charisma and originality as a great performer… One of the most interesting artists of the 90's.
