This whole album is good, you can pretty much listen to it front to back (never was able to get into "lady luck" though).
I swear this could be an Aretha Franklin song from her heyday in the 60s—with a little Journey thrown in at the end.
Steve Perry was a pretty good singer, for someone who never took vocal lessons lol

Steve Perry has a strong R & B base. Which Randy Jackson has also stated this fact in an interview. Sweet and Simple is one of my favorite songs. I'm so glad you all did this song. All of the songs on this Evolution album, is fire. I love it when Steve hits the high falsetto note. He earned the title of being called "The Voice." The greatest male singer ever, IMO. Please do more of their songs from their albums, which were not released for one reason or another.
For a song called "Sweet and Simple", the arrangement is anything but. A mix of soul, R&B, blues, rock and a cappella. Another reason why Journey is so stinking good. Thanks for reacting to it.

Other Journey songs – Something to Hide and Mother Father are equally amazing in terms of the full potential of Perry's voice. And Journey are basically a pop soul band with guitars and some rocking. Especially when Perry was with them.

Steve Perry and Sam Cooke share the same birthday, January 22. I remember an interview where he said he heard Sam Cooke on the radio when he was very young, maybe 3 or 4, and it influenced him to want to become a singer.
