FIRST EVER COROMON TOURNAMENT FINALS!!! – PERMAFROST CUP

After a long week, the Permafrost Cup finally comes to an end. Congratulations to the finalists, Rosé & Ferretsroq! Well deserved placements for each of these players who have had strong showings in this tournament. This event has made me extremely excited for the future of competitive Coromon.

Thank you to the hosts of the event, namely PepeTETRA & SrRojo! Without them this event would never have happened. There were 64 total participants in the tournament, and despite a handful of problems I personally think this event was an overall success!

  1. Damn rosè is good, he really deserved that win (also I played and I got top 16, honestly wasn't sure about the rules at first but I think i like the meta changes it brought)

  2. Just a couple notes on what I was thinking during this match:
For Kyraptor vs Atlantern, the Atlantern using Quicksand was an obvious play, because my only switchins were Glamoth and Rhynobuz. Kyraptor was largely dead weight in this matchup, so I was fine sacing it for chip damage on Atlantern, which is otherwise a problem for my team. I knew I could tank a Bubble Blower because of Unip Fruit, so I had no incentive to switch.
The early crit against Humbee might have mattered, it depends on Rosé's spread. I am running bulky Humbee, but if they're max attack then it was irrelevant.
Rosé's Vulbrute was a menace. After learning how bulky it was in the first game, I realized that my entire gameplan had to be built around getting Megalobite in against it. Obviously, this didn't work out.
My only answers to Malavite were getting Humbee to use Feelers on a switchin followed by Transcending (unlikely) or getting the 1-turn Crushing Waterfall from Megalobite (also unlikely). It was a problem matchup for me and theirs was especially problematic. I was trying to bait the Transcending with Rhynobuzz, but once they showed All In in game 2, the game was over. I had no response because Transcending was always going to KO Megalobite.
Overall, Rosé massively outprepped me and it shows in the results of this match. You may have noticed my team looks a lot like an in-game team, and that's because it was! I only played 6v6 battles in this tournament and did very little practice, so I got caught off guard by some specific Coromon tech that I didn't know about.
Also, I had literally never seen the move Whoosh before this match. I spent this whole time thinking Wind Blast was the flying move of choice for Glamoth. Woops.
GGs to Rosé and thanks for posting the video!
