  1. I love how the Anime handles the fights. The fights feel purposefully anticlimactic in the manga and it works perfectly, but the difference in media changes a lot. I absolutely love the manga and I was worried that people I recommended the anime to would think the fights were boring before they got invested in the context and story. I’m just so happy the style they chose to animate the fights works so well, it’s definitely living up to the manga.

  2. I love Stark's finisher.
They portrayed the speed of his attack very well.
There is a frame holding up the axe and a second frame where he has already completed the strike.
There is absolutely no animation of the strike itself. Magnificent

  3. Highlights this episode:
    – Stark putting on his jacket.
    – Aura’s VA saying, “hidoi yo ne.”
    – Frieren’s dispel magic animation.
    – Linie’s initial spin axe attack.
    – Fern walking steadily toward Lugner, especially her boots animation.
    – Lugner’s flying animation.
    – Linie spinning around the spear that had been thrust into the ground and then throwing it at Stark.
    – Fern’s final Zoltrak, Lugner’s death, and Fern floating majestically in the night sky, staring down at his disintegrating body.
    Chef’s kiss!

  4. Madhouse is doing crazy work, who would have thought Frieren would have one of the best fight scene this year, I am confident Madhouse will deliver once again with Dungeon Delicious next year.

  5. What's really insane is how physically tough Eisen was back in the day. Weapons would literally shatter on impact with Eisan's body. That's how hard Eisan's body is. Stark is only 17 right now and Fern is only 16. They are literally barely more than children still.

  6. You can imagine the original Zoltraak had an energy frequency that is effective at destroying flesh and armor. The new Zoltraak was one Frieren probably tuned and adjusted so the frequency destroys beings made out of mana more effectively. That's how I think the difference Lugner noticed.

  7. I like the fact that they animated her in such a way as to emphasise the weight of the axe in her hands, but not showing just how much force it actually had until the final, crucial moment.
