Wizards and Warriors Channel fantasy animated documentary video series on the lore Warhammer 40k Universe and the Horus Heresy, started with the discussion of how the humanity fared in the 3rd millennium and beyond, how the Emperor started uniting the Humanity and the beginning of the Great Crusade, as Emperor and his sons – the Primarchs use the newly created space marines to bring the Humans together through conquest. They would fight the Xenos, including the Orks and this episode featured the battle of Ullanor against an Orkish Waaagh (youtu.be/gb_MU14wDQg). The Primarchs grew dissatisfied when the militaristic side of the Imperium began waning in importance, and more power was given to normal humans. Many secretly broke the rules made by the Emperor, unknowingly opening themselves to the machinations of the Chaos Gods. While all this was happening, the newly appointed Warmaster, Horus Lupercal, struggled to keep his brothers in check and prove that he was a capable leader – the seeds of chaos were sown (https://youtu.be/ZHOF64R8tPk). Horus falls to Chaos due the plots of Erebus, leading to the Burning of Prospero, which was one of the greatest misunderstandings in the history of the Imperium leading to the fall of the Thousands Sons to chaos (https://youtu.be/GDyZ4T0G9ZI). He was now ready to begin the Civil War at Isstvan III (https://youtu.be/LfZBr9qCESw), and the victory there allowed the Traitorous legions to ambush the Loyalists at Isstvan V, leading to the dropsite massacre (https://youtu.be/SU_FA8MCnzQ). In the aftermath, Horus continued gaining ground, winning the battle of Phall and taking over a large chunk of galaxy (https://youtu.be/DiPvSex_u9A). Some loyal Legions, including the Dark Angels, just learned about the heresy and started making their moves, leading to the Battles of Chondax System, Alaxxes Nebula, Prospero and Signus Campaign (https://youtu.be/LifpyG97Xds), while on the side of the galaxey, the Fate of Ultramar was decided in the battles of Calth and Nuceria.

  1. Sadly, I cannot get myself to like this universe – I know that it is a unpopular opinion, especially because I like roman history and history in general, I do play the Total war series of games (I like Warhammer the least, but I do play it from time to time), I do like fantasy/fiction/scifi books series, but in this universe the odds are heavily stacked in favor of Chaos, they almost always have the element of surprise, they always have tricks up their sleeves, they have lots of advantages usually – it is getting kind of samey after watching this whole series here up until now.

Dunno, just watching a side constantly blasting the other one away does not really motivate me to dig deeper. I wish I liked this universe, though.

  3. "There was no chain of command. I decided I needed to build one." – Aeonid Thiel

An honourable mention should go to Aeonid Thiel, an Ultramarine censured for his Astartes vs Astartes theorems, which were seen as treasonous. He was sent to the Macragge's Honour and had his helmet painted red as a mark of censure.

When the Battle of Calth began, Aeonid was waiting in Roboute Guilliman's office. Knowing he may be expelled or executed, he decided to play with the weapons in his Primarch's personal armoury.

As chaos erupted, Aeonid raided all the weapons from Guilliman's armoury, gathered a motley crew of marines, army and navy personnel, chapter serfs and an ogryn, and armed them with all the weapons.

Together they fought the daemons, retook the bridge and rescued the First Chapter Master Marius Gage.

His red helmet, once a mark of censure, became a badge of honour and would denote the rank of sergeant in the Ultramarines.

  4. The traitor legions campaign and attack against the Ultramarines was nothing more than a Pyrrhic victory. As although they cut them off from the rest of the imperium and inflicted heavy casualties in them, they lived to fight another day. While two traitor legions involved descended into madness and stupidity as they embraced all out bloodlust and became mindless pawns of Khorne.
