I'm so thrilled you are watching this!
The show is really well done. Inconsistencies with the lore are minor and the tone is so on point.
The thing I love about the 50s Americana levity is that it disguises the horror. When ole Monty got the pickles. Thatβs salt and vinegar in huge open wounds, eyes, ears, nose, and airways. With a different tone, that could be a scene from a Hostel movie, that might be the most painful death in the entire show. But itβs presented in a way that feels triumphant, and itβs not until you *think about it*.
A pleasant surprise, thank you.
This is a really great start to the series. Lucy heals herself with a stimpak so that's another way that they are staying true to the games. A lot of the series was shot in South Africa and Namibia, where many of the ruins near the ocean were filmed – that ruined ship is a real wreck in Namibia.
Just started this. Never knew the lore. Will binge the series- then read up on stuff
Alternate timeline where the transistor wasn't invented in the 50's and they ran wholesale with the Nuclear tech etc. Gives that retro-futurism feel. But the bombs fall in 2077.
This was a nice surprise! Just finished binging the show myself. Starts a little slow but it picks up steam fast. Love what they did with it, and pretty true to the rich game lore. I've the feeling you will enjoy it.
Also, people have been arguing that the squires carrying the bag for the knights of the Brotherhood is a reference to your companion in game that follows you basically just to carry your loot π
Most vaults don't connect to other vaults, but I'm wondering if the three vaults mentioned in the pilot (31, 32, 33) being connected has something to do with the experiment being run there. They mentioned a Triennial Trade where it appears they trade parts, crops and breeding partners. I guess we will find out as the series goes on.
The brainwrap/film burning alluding to a nuclear explosion….or the end of the world as Lucy knows it. So freaking cool. Also, Monty did find himself in a pickle, huh?
Phew, okay. I've seen this episode so I can watch this video.
I know Fallout from 2 places: Watched a let's play series (that was an uncut upload from a streamer it had over 300 videos) of Fallout 4 and also the Fallout mod for HOI4.
It would have been fun if the people in the opening scene had attempted to "duck and cover".
The thumb scene really affected me lol. That little girl can act
You resisted making a full Monty joke.
I found the opening scene absolutely epic, the rest of the show kindaβ¦ itβs not bad, but itβs not The Expanse.
If youβre into the whole Cold War stuff and want some masochism, The Day After would be a great thing to react to. Threads if you need catharsis.
Yeah Man! that opening is something else!
As someone who has only sporadically heard about this world, (mostly from Templin Institute case files) I was drawn in from the start!
did the burning film projector remind anyone else about the bombs? great shots!
they did a great job introducing our characters, I was hooked immediately!
Also if you get stabbed and don't have a stimpack ready, DON'T remove the blade, it will just make you bleed out faster.
ngl, "and there's Monty's penis." is not a thing i was expecting to hear today! great reaction my dude, happily subscribed and looking forward to watching the rest of this awesome show with you. sincerest best wishes to you and yours.πππ
The bombs dropped in 2077 in the Fallout world
I love how over the top almost campy the violence in this show is. Very much a similar tone to the games.
The best way to understand the world of Fallout is to think that it's not based on science, but on SCIENCE! (in all caps, exclamation point required). In other words, it's based not on how science actually works, but on how the general public of the 1950s thought that science worked, mostly with respect to radiation, mutation, nuclear power, etc.
Computers are giant electronic brains running on vacuum tubes and powered by nuclear fission or fusion; cars are nuclear-powered; nuclear waste has a sickly green glow; radiation doesn't kill you (necessarily), but gives you superpowers; irradiated animals grow bigger and meaner. This was all carefully thought through and designed by the creators of the first Fallout games, and then carried on through the franchise.
The aesthetics are 100% Zeerust, again based on popular 1950 opinions on how the future should look like. It's pretty awesome.
Regarding the opening: as a child of the 70s, the thread of nuclear annihilation was always in the background. I used to have recurring nightmares: my parents' house was up in the hills above the city, and I would stand there and see explosions going off in the valley below. It looked exactly like this opening scene, and it was terrifying.
I'm really glad you mentioned the fragility problems with shallow ecosystems like in vaults. π That might be relevant to some other show you're watching.
I'm embarrassed that it took me until this re-viewing to notice the parallel between "Lucy … Maximus … the Ghoul" and "The Good … the Bad … the Ugly." Now the Sergio Leone homage in all the scenes involving the ghoul is pretty obvious.
I binged this. Worthy:) Ted Lasso meet The Expanse:)
