you know, you mention the amount of detail in the work, but this is mike mignola, it's kinda funny because lots of other comic artist go reaaaaally far with the details, compared to them mignola is kinof tame XD.
but seriously, newer mignola stuff looks much better to me, and it has much less detail, but it's not just that, it's something else that's better. I just can't figure out what it is, the composition is much better, but I think that what really makes it better is, every panel has a very satisfying illustration.
