  1. I was walking in a park, listening to a streaming channel when I 'discovered Tournemire's 3rd symphony. I was instantly taken by it-and the next day, you were talking about it and him! I must agree about that Symphony being a great car travel companion.

In fact, so diverse is the music, so impressionistic, and with such evocative orchestration, it is perfect walking around Central Park-type fare. It is just me, but I am not sure sitting in an uncomfortable seat at a concert is preferable to simply letting this music breathe its changing moods on a long walk, or being engulfed in something or other at home while it plays around you.

I somehow (foolishly I know) imagine Tournemire walking the streets of Paris composing in his head as he experiences the sights, sounds. and smells of the city; all of which infuses into the music itself. I swear at one point in one of the symphonies, I heard an impressionistic sound of car horns as he ambled about! Well, insane as I may be, what glorious music; a real discovery for me, and thanks for highlighting it and him here.

  2. Thank you for your videos. Are you going to review the Pinnock Boxset? And you also said that you were going to do a Haydn Creation video. Is that something we can expect in the near future?

  3. Along with Widor’s Symphonie Antique and his Organ Symphony #6, Tournemire’s 6th is one of my all time favorites. It makes me cry, give me dread, and also gives hope. An immense piece that deserves a place in the repertoire!
