Suppé: Light Cavalry Overture
Saint-Saëns: Piano Concerto No. 5 “Egyptian”
INTERMISSION
Saint-Saëns: “Africa” Fantasy for piano and orchestra
Magnard: Symphony No. 4
I've enjoyed listening to this Magnard cycle so far and this one looks like fun too…I for one, would like to see a few (or all) of the String Symphonies sprinkled into the upcoming Mendelssohn cycle; there's a lot of good music in there too!
The only one of these I've heard on a concert is the Egyptian concerto. With Awadigan Pratt. That's ALL I remember from the concert, none of the other works. Says something for the piece.
That's a great program. I listened to it all. I really wish there was an audience for it. Such great music here that most people just miss out on. In my Pre-Dave phase of life I was one of those people. I'm now enjoying the Post-Dave lifestyle 🙂
maybe in the future, some programs focusing on the hindemith symphonies? would be interested to hear how you would program his 4th.

I own all of these – I'm adding these to my Christmas Eve playlist … thanks, David!

Both Magnard and Carl Nielsen share the same birth date, 9 June 1865.
