  1. I agree that Faust has paid his debt to society in terms of prison time, but also I don’t think he should be allowed to own weapons, and I think that about anyone who has committed a violent crime, remorse or not

  2. Just my favourite black metal band, or maybe, one of the most known acts from this particular scene that made me get into it.
I've attended their last gig here in Brazil last year, and I can guarantee that after the show you just leave the venue with a cleansed soul. Next year I'll be doiing the same onn their Santiago (Chile) gig in The Metal Fest. For me, they don't have a single bad record, although I understand that some people have some dislike on a certain degree with Prometheus.
    Another great "Explaining" Series, Wyatt!
And also, great Ihsahn cosplay! xD

  3. Equilibrium is my least favorite album by them. Mainly because I can't stand the King Diamond style 'crotch grabbing' high pitch singing. Anthems is my favorite and I completely agree it's their magnum opus. Prometheus, though… is such an incredible album. I feel like if you view it by itself and take it for what it is, it's amazing. If you're comparing it to their other albums, however, I completely understand your feelings on it. And for a while I didn't like it. As I've gotten older, it's grown to be one of my favorites.

  4. A bit later Ihsahn rekindled Thou Shalt Suffer as a solo project in 2000, its more ambient neo-classical style than metal, pretty intense stuff a bit reminiscent of the split with Thorns. Also a big fan of Peccatum.

Like Skinny Puppy I hardly listen to them anymore, and when I do its usually Prometheus. But its safe to say from 15-25 they were one of the bands I would listen to the most.

It wasn't that controversial when he played, that's more of a view from the rear view mirror. I do recognize the importance of this discussion, but yeah metal heads mostly didn't really care back then.

  5. for faust I would say that he has changed, I wouldnt use the word redeem but he has remorse for Magne and clearly tries his best to better himself, the word redemption is very strong and I don't think the act of murder can be redeemed because you cant take the life back that was taken in the first place. I believe he deserves the right to forgive himself which I cant say he even has on his own. To add (to which I might regret depending on your comment section and if any of your NS audience sees this) as queer person, specifically trans lesbian, I can appreciate that a former member of the inner circle breaks the ignorant shadow that looms over that 2nd wave of black metal by being supportive of queer people and hopefully is just bettering himself as a person. kind of a whogivesashit statement but I felt I needed to let that off my chest. Awesome vid as always Wyatt.

  6. You can't just say 'regardless of what they did'. Forgiveness is based on the crime. When you take a human life, it makes sense that you become a social Pariah. There is never any need to forgive someone who killed an innocent person.

  7. I know that you often don't put your attention to explaining music outside metal itself. But I really really want to know if you could do a "Explaining Godspeed You! Black Emperor" video, because the band's music it's so… Unique… That I'd like to see you talking for over an hour just about topics of that band.

With nothing more to type, I just let this in the hands of destiny.
