People who play Dutch stonewall defense, they don’t care about winning or losing. They just love the artistic beauty of this opening. Don’t get me wrong this is such a beautiful opening that sometimes i dream of a girl roleplaying as dutch stonewall defense with me in lonely nights but it’s just not good enough to compete especially if you are not a good player that understands advanced positional chess and maneuvering tactics. Everything in theory works well like this bishop complimenting the position and knight guarding everything with 4 pawns taking heavy advantage of light squares but a good opponent can easily breach this stonewall. Some great players have played this opening including Magnus Carlsen but he has also played bongcloud on various occasions and that doesn’t mean you should try it out too. It’s way more aesthetic than London pyramids. I will even go as far as saying this is clearly number one in terms of charm and a distant second would be accelerated dragon but chess is not a game of beautiful structures. Like you just provided an outpost for your opponent’s knight right here. One strong point of this opening is that people who want quick knockouts always lose to this stonewall defense because these games are marathon not sprints. You have to slowly try to break apart these positions. You can also try flank attacks from queenside against this defense. These players give respect to pawns that they deserve unlike queen’s gambit players that just sacrifices them for selfish reasons such as fast development. Sun tzu said in art of war that All warfare is based on pawn structures and this was his favorite opening to play. If you clicked on this video to watch the roast of this opening, I am sorry but i am not such a cold stone hearted person. Credits should be given where they are due and this opening deserves a victoria cross in beautiful chess. If you want to do boring things like winning games or increasing elo you can play grunfeld or nimzo indian but if you want to get emotional looking at the masterpiece you just built, dutch stonewall defense is the way to go. That’s all and I guess it’s time for banger outro.
