The global alliance fleet. Nearly all of the largest cannons that exist on this planet have been gathered here, in one place. Every bit of human brainpower has its sights fixed on the same target. It took a miracle to assemble this fleet, and if we fail…Then humanity has nothing on this world that can stop this….This Rumbling.
The tactical side of the Marlean defense seems kind of weird. WW1 – WW2 era big gun battleships are extremely expensive. The biggest naval battle of WW1 only saw 44 dreadnaughts/ 250 ships (most of those being destroyers, aka small ships without ginormous cannons). At the start of the war there were even less 22 UK and 19 for Germans, while the US had 10. If we combine the three biggest navies of the world together they would only put together 51 big battleships against the rumbling. Meanwhile if we look at the number of artillery pieces at the start of the war, Germany alone has over 5000 7.7cm light cannons and 1260 10.5cm light howitzers and moreover 2400 heavy field guns, most of those being 15cm field howitzers. It is very expensive to put a big gun on the ocean and it is comparatively very cheap to put a big gun on land. The fleet was a futile effort from the get go despite requiring a ginormous amount of political will. They knew that Eren was coming for Marley and they had sufficient rail infrastructure. Lobbying the global alliance for field guns would be much more fruitful, then trying to pull off anything with the ships, not to mention the fact that shooting from land at titans emerging from the sea is much easier than trying to hit titans swimming towards you under water from a ship.
What makes this scene more lacking is that
The people who were in the battleships were ready to fight to the death but all their efforts were put into waste

World War 2 vessels in a compact manner like this wouldnt have stopped them either. seeing the mikasa class ships send a barrage just to be ended by a cloud of burning mist.
imagine if this was with world war 2 vessels. with how the ships flew that high. the yamato wouldnt have done anything better. its more of a cloud of explosions as the masses of steel and explosions wreck the beaches. maybe exploding while below the ocean. could create a tsunami that would make marley itself become flooded. putting the titans in ankle deep water. nothing couldve stopped the millions or maybe billions of titans swarming marley all at once. as marley is on a continent. this would be land. all land from now on

Now lets say all of the main guns on the ships are 356mm naval guns and thr smaller cannons below the deck are 150mm cannons and are all high explosive
That giant barrage had the power to level paradis but only thought about using it on the rumbling had just a small fraction of those ships sorounded paradis and fired at Shiganshina eren and the gang would be nothing but a fine puddle on the floor

Watching this back is absolutely menacing. It took about a day or so for the airships to get back and warn everyone that the world was ending, and the militaries of the globe did not question it for a second, and rushed every navy ship to build the biggest blockade the world had ever seen. And that was right after a massive war. Even the grand admiral notes it was an absolute miracle it happened at all.
And after all that, they didnt even make a DENT in the madness that came for them. Even if somehow the navies did not destroy eachother in the middle east conflict, it wouldnt have mattered. Thats horrifying.
I know there wasn’t much the land forces could do once they stood up but wouldn’t you try to fight? You’re not gonna run away fast enough so maybe take at least one more down before they eat you.
If world war one tech can't defeat the rumbling the how about world war 2 tech excluding the atomic weapons
