The whitecloak charge looking more epic than the Heroes of the Horn is unforgivable to me. I liked the ep overall, give it a 6.5/10, but that annoyed me to no end. The Horn felt very, very underwhelming.
I find the whitecloack kids are an important allusion to Catholic liturgy. They're altar boys to this righteous sect that hates and persecutes powerful women.
Honestly it was a pathetic season. Worse than the first one even . It’s not Robert Jordan’s Wheel of time. I wish they would just make their own universe instead of insulting the original
I was very disappointed with Rand's battle with Turok and Ishamael. Let's see what it takes to earn a heron mark blade on this side of the ocean. As a book fan, I really wanted an epic showdown.
The show as a whole has been a disappointment, and I haven't liked basically any of the departures from the books. However, there is one way in which the show improves on the books. The Forsaken in the books are ALL super mustache-twirly. Ishamael and Lanfear are way more interesting in the show than they were in the books.
Moiraine must be black…. She definitely used the power as a weapon against non dark friends.
No sisters were being hurt when she flamed the ships. She didn’t know Suroth was dark or even there.
Good Lord.
I loved it over-all, period. Special the end scene with Lanfear having coldwar by another Forsaken.
How do people watch this clown. Every single thing in this show was stupid, he admits it. The word nitpick is a joke. Here is a challenge, find me a single scene with any major character, and see if I can't elaborate on why it's stupid, not from a book perspective, from the shows own internally constantly stupid and inconsistent world!
I am pretty sure you will be hard pressed. Oh but ignore all that, the show was great and they setup everything for future seasons perfectly
I am pretty sure there is only 2 reasons you can like this show, one is your a misandrist, and you are also either happy to completely turn off your brain, or your just outright stupid.
Comparing this to Game of Thrones, is as big a travesty as this show is to any thinking being, and most modern Marvel is similar and as garbage as this TV show is.
Super hero's are supposed to be ridiculous and break physics, while wheel of time has magic, it was still relatively well explained and controlled to a degree!
Why do we get garbage on TVMovies today, here it is, look at Naeblis and people like him and you can understand why!
This will be complete bible stories set for the future generations when the real bible stories and bible disappears in the oblivion of technology….people like Gandalf/ moraine will echoe in the minds of the future
Rand kills Turok and Ishamael. That is definitely "big moments".
I thought this was a 9 of 10 episode.
Ironically, the only part I felt was cheese was the Mat horn sequence.
10 episodes for season 2 content were needed
Man. This just….looks awful. And there are so many baffling choices, narratively. Why would the Shadar Logoth dagger be the key to opening the chest? Why does the "chest" look like a briefcase? Why doesn't Rand learn how to use the sword, at all? Why don't we have his character arc where he kills Turak (his first time killing anyone) and sort of loses some of his innocence? Why is Rand channeling so well at this point where, in the books, he doesn't really catch his stride until The Shadow Rising? Why does the Horn of Valere look so cheap? Why does it look like a weird conch shell thingy, when it's depicted as a somewhat plain French horn in the books? Why doesn't the Shadar Logoth dagger do anything, when in the books even a scratch kills within seconds? Why does Rand get stabbed with that dagger now, when in the books he doesn't get cut by the blade for another….5 books or so? Why do the damane look like they're wearing ball gags and how is that any better than the collar and bracelet design the RJ describes? Why does Falme look like it's in the middle of a desert when in the books it's pretty plainly described as being a sort of New England like coastal area (RJ refers to the changing color of the foliage and saplings being dotted about during the big battle scene)? Why are the Waygates these dumb open archways instead of the avendesora doors?
Say all you want about how the show can't be a 1:1 adaption of the books, say all you want about casting choices and erased plot lines, blah blah blah – the thing that irritates me the most, and for which I haven't heard a single good defense, is all these little design/aesthetic choices & changes that were not necessary at all. I think I find it upsetting because it betrays either an inability or a lack of desire to pay attention to RJ's work and the world he built.
I truly truly wanted this show to be good but I honestly can't fathom how anyone looks at it and says it's good with a straight face. It's neither a good show nor a good adaption of the source material. I just want it to be canceled so a more competent team can have a go at it in a few years, after the world forgets what a travesty this was.
The show how manage to be both to slow and to fast at the same time, the pacing is all over the place. I enjoyed this much more than season 1, so I am optimistic for the future. Changes, as always I do not mind them, but some of the changes they make forces bad writing and breaks the immersion. You really need to leave your critical thinking at the door.
To speak no word that is not true.
To make no weapon with which one person may kill another.
Never to use the One Power as a weapon, except in the last extreme defense of her own life, or the life of her Warder, or another Aes Sedai.
—————————————————-
So I was thinking about the three oaths and whether show Moiriane broke them destroying the Seanchan fleet.
Could it not be argued that fighting the Seanchan is actually defending Aes Sadai? That she new Aes Sadai were being held and used as Damane that novices and accepted where on that tower. That by freeing Rand she would in effect be protecting the lives of Aes Sadai
And saving many lives. Therefore she is able to use the third oath in this attack.
Also Lady Suroth is a dark-friend an Aes Sadai can use the one power against darkfriends. Do the three oaths allow things to be indirect like this or does she need to know someone is a dark friend to use the one power on them? Do accepted and novices count as Aes Sadai concerning the oaths? Can the oath be used in an indirect defense of all Aes Sadai from the SeanChan “pacifiers” or does it need to be a more direct defense?
If it needs to be direct could it not be argued she directly attacked boats not people in the same manner that she sank the Tarren Ferry. Yes people were on board the fleet of ships but the fire first hit the bots does collateral damage prevent her from doing this?
I Think there is enough loop holes here to make an argument an oath was not broken.
I could not understand how Rand ,who was easily shielded by a single Aes Sedai which makes Siuan say "A single Aes Sedai can handle you like baitfish" manage to kill the strongest Forsaken so easily. The story telling felt inconsistent.
Rand's portrayal in this season have been a real bummer. His dialogues are weak and obvious. He is the dragon still he is shielded but anyone who channels. Rand absolutely needed a bigger moment. Rand and Ishamael fight could have been a epic one but it turned out a bust. Still, I want 3th season. this show has so much potential to be a epic if properly created.
for all of the non-believers – you do realize that this "book/series" is based off of the bible
the "dragon reborn" – is referring to the Anti christ/beast to come
crazy that the world has so many unbelievers – when even hollywood clearly reads the bible and knows the word of god to be true
The Turak death scene had to be inspired by Raiders of the Lost Ark marketplace swordsman scene…has to be 🙂
I was dissatisfied with the Turok encounter. I think it's mostly because there is no "denial Rand". This Rand has no reluctance to use the one power. Also really would have preferred the one on one encounter with Ishamael rather than have Egwene deal with it. In fact Egwene freeing herself then basically handling Ishamael is really a role reversal between her and Rand. There are times in the story where Rand and Egwene need help from friends and times where they need to stand alone. I think they got it backwards here.
Reader here, I just like seeing things I know rather than the things they miss at this point. Wheel of time is based on the idea of rebirth so churning characters back out is…..ok I guess, less fake out deaths though. More goat kissing episodes for the love of the light!!!!!!!!!!!
For me was Lanfaer said light may help him! Lanfaer and light?
Can we start a hash tag or petition to get ten episodes. Lets annoy the shit out of Bezos!
It is interesting how improved the show is and yet still makes massive mistakes. If they cut those out it might actually be great in future.
Hated the 3 Oaths being broken by Moiraine.
Hated Rand getting robbed of either of his actual moments.
Hated Uno being a hero of the Horne.
Hated Ingrar just dying despite them actually puting background work in earlier for his reveal.
Still actually really liked the episode. Overall peobably because of the performances, but also in some story points.
Whitecloak stuff was great, both in their attack, their reason for doing it, Bornhalds death and Dains seeing it.
Damane stuff was great, Egwene has had a great season. Well until they go overboard snd have here save Rand from Ishy.
The scenes between the Forsaken were all great.
My biggest issue was how weak they made Ishamael appear. It’s as if they ignored his Baalzamon persona completely and focused entirely on the tired and crestfallen Moridin. Ishamael was ridiculously powerful in the first three books, and it was all Rand could do to defeat him even with Callindor ( i probably spelled that wrong). Overall, I’m very disappointed with how the show runners handled his character.
Disagree because other movies fail doesn’t mean this is good because of the same failings. The material is there use it. Too many choices of spectacle over substance. A bunch of stuff happens with no tie to anything. At most 5.5/10.
Season 2: Epicly pulling up from a nose dive.
I actually really liked it quite a bit.
As a long-time book reader, I absolutely love what they're doing with this show. I think your ratings skew a bit too low for my liking, but your analysis is fair. I especially agree that there should be more than 8 episodes per season!
I was severely disappointed in two places specifically: 1) that Egwene killed Renna, and 2) that Perrin did kill Geofram Bornhald. these were specific and explicit character points from the book that are specifically and explicitly contradicted in this episode.
I wish Rand got to fight the Seanchan Lord Turak. It would have been some pay off from learning from the old man in the asylum and speaking a bit with Lan before meeting Siuan. Instead, he just bullets the whole group down like he's Indiana Jones facing a huge swordsman. It definitely felt unearned. When did Rand learn to channel like that? What was the struggle? A huge part of Rand in the books is his drive to learn to survive. He's scared of the power so he tries to avoid it and uses his sword to help him. It's why he used the sword of flame for so long after. It's what he knows. Lanfear even mocks him for it. It also becomes part of his character as he embraces the borderlands saying about duty is heavier than a mountain; death lighter than a feather. He carries the sword with the Aiel despite their utter contempt and disapproval. I understand that time robs the show of every great moment, but if you sat down with a few book readers and serious fans, they could list out like a top 5-10 moments that HAVE to be in the show, this could be one. It's like how they skipped Mat vs. Gawyn/Galad. I hope they put that next season. It's a huge moment fans remember.
Rand's fight with Ishy was definitely a gang effort. It felt like scooby doo or something. There was never a doubt that they were all going to make it to the tower to win the battle. I would have appreciated that scene a little more if they showed the debilitating effects of Rand's injury more. I would've liked to see him at least fight Ishy man to man since they skipped his sword battle earlier. Regardless, Rand was not the hero of this episode. He just happened to earn the right of stabbing Ishy because idk. Matt could've walked up and stabbed him. Perrin could have punched him. Ish offered NO resistance. I'd have liked to see his despair at his plans crumbling and being overwhelmed by Rand. It just felt…unearned.
Moraine suddenly became God for a minute. Lan also just casually fights a scouting party or something? idk where those dudes came from and why they thought to kill the couple walking on the beach instead of rushing the city in flames and under siege. Cool scene, totally needed more set up.
All in all, I'm pumped for season 3. Great improvement on Season 1. I almost didn't watch season 2. These are changes I can live with. This is a show that I can almost recommend to someone.
So just Make channelers? So they have not yet introduced the hall of servants?
Since I haven't watched the show I assumed Ono was Gaidal. But they should have included a blond girl with him if that is their plan.
So nynaeve is strong enough to withstand Ishamael and Lanfear isn’t strong enough to defend herself from Moghedien
Here is my review of "Amazon Presents: Rafe Judkins Expresses His Hatred Of Men By Butchering The WoT". That is the name of this show, right?
💩💩💩💩
That's right! A 4 out of 5 on the steaming turd scale. The only thing keeping it from being a full fledged steaming turd is the greatness of the source material they are butchering.
It's amazing how weak Rand is. I agree the dragon thing was awful. This should be the Egwene and Moraine show.
Every bit of this show makes me hate it more and I hope its canceled so that perhaps in the future we might actually get a decent retelling of the property.
For me, the big book change is having Rand's first unHealable wound being caused by the Shadar Logath dagger. That creates a major change that has huge implications down the way in the story. The second wound will have to be changed in order to preserve the dichotomy that leads Rand to learn how to cleanse Saidin, as another slash from the same dagger won't do that.
What is the meaning of the heron mark on Rands hand?
