Entitled to mail?

A South Florida condo association has not received their mail in months. No bills, no holiday cards, nothing. Are you entitled to get your mail? It’s why one man called Help Me Howard with Patrick Fraser.

  1. What about the 30k-40k(or how ever much) the HOA took from it's residents to pay for the mail boxes, did that get given back to the residents since it's no longer needed for the mail boxes? They said it was a special assessment doesn't that mean the residence paid extra to the HOA on top of what they normally would have?

  2. Why were they not going to the post office once a week or so to pick up their mail? You can do that. Why are they not holding a meeting to demand answers from their HOA board, which should consist of neighbors? If the current board can't do the job, vote them out and get new ones. Hire an attorney and file a lawsuit. Do something, don't just sit there.

  3. I’m curious as to what’s being done with the HOA fees. They need to find someone who has knowledge about them who can challenge them. Bet they’re paying themselves with that money. They’re obviously not doing any improvements or upkeep.

  4. I guarantee this same HOA patrols around handing out fines to the people that live the condos that are in any type of violation and explaining to them about how important it is to keep the area in pristine shape.

  5. My parent's HOA president was on such a power trip that their maintenance vendor stopped working with them. The residents took action and voted him out. If you have an HOA and residence aren't interested in staying active in the goings on, its easy for corruption to set in. Little microcosms of our country.
I'm renting a room in a condo, one of the 25% of allowed renters, and the fee went up here again. So my rent raised. I have less power than the condo owners. My landlord would probably be offended if I attended the meetings. There's gas coming up from the sewar making it gross to wash my face in the sink. Im on the second floor. I can smell when the guy in another unit puts on too much cologne, it fills my place. I hear when the guy upstairs pees while I'm in the tub. They were built so cheaply to begin with. Affordable housing is a scam. Its built to break and cost more in the long run. I'd be so pissed if I had purchased a place built as cheaply as this. But the costs rose because of utilities from what I understand. But residents have to stay on top of that. Costs shouldn't rise because something needs fixing, there should be money in the budget for maintenance.
But this community clearly let everything go, my guess is many residents are renting, and the owners don't care because they're getting the rent and living comfortably someplace else.

  6. Start a petition among the residents. Tell the HOA that they are not providing the services the homeowners are paying for so the homeowners will no longer pay HOA fees. See how fast they will act when you threaten to withhold their money.

  7. I lived at a place and wanted my mail delivered to my parents because I was going to be moving around and needed a solid place to pick up my mail. I called the post office and was told that I couldnt do that. I told the lady on the phone that "its my mail, I tell you where to send it and you deliver it" and she said "actually, no, that is against the law….it can only be sent to your address".

So….if I have to get mail at my address and they are calling the shots, then they should be required to deliver mail…there is no entitlement. If they want to handle the duty of handling our mail, there is no excuse. They should be fixing the mailboxes.
