  1. Chinese American, I didn’t get pocket money but we got cash every once in a while. But I never used it. To this day I think I have my wallet filled with money in my drawer. I grew up with a very poor lifestyle even though my famiIy wasn’t super poor. I remember skipping lunch so my parents wouldn’t have to worry about lunch money. To this day i wear old baggy clothes because I grew up wearing my brothers old clothes. It feels super weird because my family is actually pretty well off now but I grew up with a very miserly lifestyle. I got super depressed during college because I knew my parents worked their ass off my entire childhood to pay for it and the pressure broke me. I’m still paying off the debt to this day. The brother who grew up with me during those hard times passed and I’m the only child in the family that remembers them. At one point I was going several days without eating to save money. Everyone had a car but I was still biking. A decade of therapy later and I still feel pain when going out to eat at an expensive restaurant.
