  1. Our civilization is literally a blink of an eye, as he puts it. Ergo, you can think that many other civilizations that could be out there were also a blink of an eye. We very well may be alone in our little corner of the Milkyway at this point in time, but that doesn't mean at all that we're alone as far as life in the universe either now or at other points in time. Who's to say an intelligent species traveling the stars didn't come across Earth 80M years ago? They saw our planet teeming with life, along with the dinosaurs. Maybe it wasn't really habitable for them, or since they didn't see intelligent life with technology, they just moved on. They put it in their database and went somewhere else.
Because we have had such a fleeting existence in the scope of the universe, it's very vain to say flat out just because we see no evidence means there isn't other life out there.

  2. One aspect of the Moon which is good is for storing heat from all the sunlight it recieves during the day. The heat can be stored in the regolith if burried deep and the heat transfered to it. This heat will be needed for the cold lunar night which lasts for half an Earth month.

  3. Elon and all his crew you are made in Gods image as we all are and I respect all and believe we can achieve almost anything we can imagine but i have to say, Elon you are not God, you do not acknowledge nor believe clearly from this video alone. You are making a decision and using a vast amount of resources and time (!) for an endeavour you have decided is what Earth needs and I'm sorry to me i just feel you are using your riches to play God in a way. Fact is the world is such that you have worked hard to earn enough money to do such crazy things. Truth is, it just hurts me to see , even though your achievements are amazing, so much time and money in my humble opinion is being totally wasted. Money and resources that could really benefit Earth and its people !!! Yes its a simple view but simplicity does not mean BS. Theres a reason there are no planets that can support life without intervention in someway and this is because God created us and one planet for us and has had to deal with and make a way to deal with SIN and so im sorry to say this but in my view we are not going to Mars to settle a new a planet, it wont happen just like the tower of babble did not complete without Gods intervention.

  5. I like that analogy of the ratio of civ to planetโ€™s life vs x to avg human lifespan is less than 1 second. ~0.69s ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    5,500yrs : 3.5B yrs = 0.69s : 77.5yrs

    โ€œthe blink of an eyeโ€

  6. I agree with Musk about preserving the spark of intelligence by going interplanetary. However, why do we assume intelligence can only be in biological bodies? If we manage to build self-aware AGI in a decade or two, it might be far easier to spread consciousness in robotic bodies to the stars, than our fragile biological bodies.

  7. He canโ€™t even get the rocket in LEO. He was given $3billion by the US government to put a Starship on then Moon in the next year. How close are they? Theyโ€™re not. 3, billion dollar rockets blown up. None were carrying anything and couldnโ€™t establish themselves in LEO. But Iโ€™m sure theyโ€™ll be on Mars soon, Where humans cannot survive. Please sign up to go. Iโ€™m sure any of you praising this moron would sit atop this rocket. Remember, the first time they launched a Saturn V, it did not blow up. That was in the 1960โ€™s. What has he revolutionized?

  8. How much methane is he easily making here on earth where we have more oxygen and carbon dioxide. We have technology and engineers and natural resources and the industry to make those resources useable. Iโ€™m sure weโ€™ll just fly all those tons of those resources to mars to โ€œeasilyโ€ make methane on on Mars. Itโ€™s interesting that heโ€™s buying methane. A fossil fuel. I would think he should be doing his proof of concept here before just firing his multiple loads of humans to see if they execute all of this in their 24 hour space suit on Mars.

  9. I could have sworn he was supposed to have humans on mars if not by now within the next few years. Wasnโ€™t that what he was promising in the past. Now itโ€™s 20 years away. I guess the fundraising needs to be extended a little more into the future.

  10. The first thing you need to survive on Mars is O2, temperatures above freezing, easily accessible water, resources , and energy. Letโ€™s see him set up a base in Antarctica with the same people and resources he is going to send these people to mars with and see how long they live.

  11. Donโ€™t forget, it costs more to fly astronauts on Falcon than it did to pay Russians. Lesser of two evils though. Putin is a P** A** B****. Musk is just an unscrupulous conman.

  12. Elon talking gibberish about ET is meh! All business under Elons name is all about money and profit and getting on to other planetary bodies is whats happened to the old world riding the Mayfair and other ships to the New World. Its mans history now and moving forward. Technology, money, history and life follow the frontier wherever it goes! And it will surely go!

  13. Musk. The greatest Charlatan of our time. Rolls out some new shiny toy with promises of timelines and functionality that he never delivers on, the cheer squad showers him with money so he can send himself and a few elites to a dead world that the rest of humanity will never see while consuming massive amounts of resources that will eventually destroy our environment and pollute our skies.

  14. What if humans are descendants of distant planet, solar system or galaxy and our ancestors traveled here with the remaining few survivors of a space war or planet wide catastrophe and all the great wonders of the world were made by them. Then when the younger dryas happened all of that knowledge and tech was lost.

  15. The most important thing WE can ever do is love deeply from within as individuals. Elon, you can't take all the money from the world and build giant rockets and claim that the thing you are doing is the greatest thing WE can ever do. Please remember that this is YOUR fantasy and delusion, not OURS. I believe that the mars mission will create one thing and one thing only. A deep and profound love for our earth that will create a movement to love her until the end. The mars crew, if they come back, will have tales of adventure, but will never want to leave earth again. That is my prayer.

  16. I am starting to get tired of overblown promises with unrealistic timelines. Instead of grand plans for the future he should focus on being able to actually demonstrate the technologies and show a roadmap (a realistic one) on how the company plans to do it.

  17. @4:00 – Musk: "If we ever do become a multiplanetary species…I think we may find that there are many long-dead, one planet civilizations." That speaks volumes about why spacex is important to us as humans.
