My homie put me on to a crazy Elden Ring farming method for runes. You can literally get about 10K runes per minutes (more or less), depending on how fast your system can load and how fast you move. Unfortunately, this is a glitch in the Elden Ring, and could easily get patched out. So act fast!

After dodging the ball, immediately look back at it to watch it fall and it'll always give you your runes. For some reason, you won't be given your runes if you're facing away from it

For anyone interested in getting a ton of early runes in this area:
At the Lenne's Rise grace at nighttime you can make the Night Calvary that appears on the bridge follow close behind you up the path with all the poison and it dies instantly as you turn left up the slope for an easy 45,000 runes and an ancient dragon near the minor erd tree of this area at Fort Faroth can be safely attacked and killed with a bleed weapon from it's left side where you stand on mushrooms for 75,000 runes

The reason some boulders give you higher runes is because there is a chance of it being a rarer boulder
