  1. So, after fighting against his father's heirs for more than 50 years, Hendrik reconciled with his family by betraying the Spanish?

I swear, this war is written like a novel. 👌

  2. So what is next? How did willem respond to peace? How did he become king? How long did the southern states stay under spanish how did they got out from it. Great job but I feel there is so much more I'm invested in the netherlands now. Will there be an epilogue? Congratulations on a great series. Only channel I subscibe too!

  3. Just wanted to congratulate you on finishing this series I have been following for a while now. The quality of the narration, research, and visual content was on point. You took great care in making sure all the historical figures were represented and explained what their motivations were. You gave a great explanation of all sides of the conflict while making sure there was no undeserved praise or defamation (I'm French-Spanish). I feel like the Dutch Revolution compared to the English Revolution and the French Revolution is underrated, yet it was the longest one in recorded history and had such profound repercussions on Western European society. I just find it interesting that you guys fought for 80 years to be a Republic and today you are a liberal parliamentary monarchy.

  5. Fantastic series, watched all of them with great interest, and once caught up, waited with great agony until the next episodes. Absolutely great job, so detailed, well researched (you gave me a lot of new interesting things I can further investigate now) and all of it brought in a fun and exciting way. Great resource to keep on getting back to to recheck things, thank you so much for your effort!

  6. A documentary series that did more than just retain the complexity of its subject. It elevated the 80 years' worth of messy lines of lineage, trenches, and diplomatic and personal beefs to an art form!

  7. It is over. It is done. Never did I think that I would watch a history series that lasts for dozens of hours. And yet you made me do so. Now I know how to pronounce numerous Dutch cities and provinces, Spanish officers and generals. I learned much more than I wanted even. Thank you, this was awesome.🎉

  8. I use YouTube to watch people to react to movies I have seen and they haven't. However that's probably about 15% of my interest the rest is learning more history. Many different eras, different areas and timelines from antiquity to present day. This is the very best production of everything I have seen. I have been fascinated with the 30yrs war, the Balkans and the east west struggle meeting in the Persians and others and the Romans- Byzantines for example and before and since. But this is the best and wittiest production. Thank you!

  9. I know I might sound a bit nitpicky about this, but I think the ending was kinda sorta rushed. I wished that it was a bit like the ending of the Batavia series (absolutely amazing series BTW) where the fate of the others was explained. I wish we knew what happened to Willem II, Phillip IV, more consequences of the war, etc. But I'll admit, this complain is highly forgivable for the ABSOLUTELY AMAZING DETAILED AND WELL MADE REST OF THE SERIES. Good job Defragged! Let's salute for Willem the Silent, Maurice, Frederick Henry and the others for the good of the Dutch Republic. (also keep up the good work you are so underrated) ok byyyyyyeee

  10. There are times when you sit or lie there in a languor, unable to bring yourself to do anything useful. Usually you either wait for the end of the said spell of apathy, or maybe just do a minimal hack job. For me though, in the last year it was no longer an issue, for whenever I feel like doing nothing, I tune in for this series, and after even 10 minutes of watching, I'm motivated enough to move mountains again, finishing all my projects in the record time. God knows why, but it works. Watched it entirely on 1x speed. And would probably do again. With ❤ from russia.

  12. I think you should do one more episode to review and reflect on everything that happened. Some sort of conclusion episode that details the importance of this war. It doesn't need to be another 1 hr 47 min video, it could be less than 30 min if your workload is too big. We need an episode simply to process what the hell just happened. I certainly do, at least.

  13. Defragged History, I must say that all of this (your series here) has certainly been very something, over these many months here. The Eighty Years War was probably my most favorite subject in history ever, and before I came across your series, I read about this conflict elsewhere online (Wikipedia). But now you have brought this conflict, to my shock and aw, to a level of portrayal and detail that still amazes me to this day. Your series on the Eighty Years War here was what helped completed my knowledge of this conflict, a series that I will honestly say, was and is, one of the best history series there ever was in this world. And with this long spanding conflict here feeling complete (by me), it brought me to almost indescribable feelings of completeness and happiness, and maybe even sadness as well, unlike I have ever felt before. And so, I will say to you this

    thank you

not only for the history you taught here, but also for the wonderful memories I had while watching this series, along the way, as well.

  15. What an epic journey this has been, thank you so very much for the dedicated effort to see it all through. Two years ago, I was looking for some inspiration for 16th century politics and warfare for a semi-realistic fantasy graphic novel project but immediately got hooked on the real-life history of western Europe. The fantasy project never went anywhere, but I'm still here for this series. It seems most large developments in Europe has involved the Netherlands more or less directly! From early industrialization and the spice trade, via the many exploits of the Williams to the Schlieffen Plan(s) and onwards. To be a proper European conqueror it seems you need to invade the Netherlands, Russia or preferably both.

    Thanks again!
