Meditation: Faith Means to Suffer for Christ:
Sebastian was escorted out of the city by the soldiers to face the punishment ordered by the emperor. He had chosen to serve a higher Lord than Diocletian, pledging his loyalty in baptism and now preparing to shed his blood for Him. Let the arrows rain upon him; he would present his chest, his body, his heart, which beat passionately for Christ; let them pierce the wells of blood so that it might flow freely, enveloping him in the cloak of love that his beloved Savior wore when nailed to the Cross. The horrified crowd watched the gruesome scene, and like a bolt of lightning, it struck them, penetrating their minds and hearts: here stands a brave soldier, armed with superior weapons, fighting for victory; a hero destined to wear the crown of glory.
