This is an early attempt at creating a paint using raw (terracotta coloured) ochre pigment, gum Arabic and water. I found that with this pigment I was able to quickly render down any lumps just using the pallet knife – I didn’t need to mull it. The consistency was quite sticky at first but quickly became silky smooth as I mixed it and gradually added water. The coverage of the resultant paint as seen at the end of the video was excellent. It produced a very solid flat matte finish similar to gouache paint. The one thing I noticed was that it dried incredibly quickly.
