Dynasty Warriors: Origins Review

Dynasty Warriors: Origins reviewed by Jada Griffin on PlayStation 5, also available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.

If Dynasty Warriors: Origins is meant to be a new beginning, it’s off to a masterful start. It doesn’t just have the largest amount of enemies the series has thrown on screen at once, it also deepens its combat, improves its storytelling without getting in the way of the action, and provides a healthy amount of replayability and postgame content – all while looking better than ever. Your amnesiac hero is a bit too much of a blank slate at times, but the impressive ensemble cast make this story sing. Origins is both a great entry point for newcomers and a triumphant return for veterans who felt the last few entries had become stale or missed the mark.

  1. As a long-time fan, I'm still taken back not being able to play as my favorite characters. I did watch a good amount of gameplay and cut scenes, and I am happy they are fleshing out characters' stories more than usual. I'm excited to see what the future of the Dynasty/Samurai series goes. Hopefully, they will make the changes to pull the rest of us in.

  2. Can tell you right now it’s a breathe of fresh air to be honest for a dynasty warrior fan. My favourite in the series was dynasty warriors 3 extreme legends I am a fan of the serious but i haven’t played every entry, I got tired of it a few years back it was rinse and repeat every year. I’m glad they changed the formula now it’s fun again and more challenging. I like to play on hard

  3. The Japanese make some impressive games now.
The west has gone downhill a bit. The quality from these games is phenomenal.

The west just want to preach. I don’t mind diversity but a lot of people do. The Japanese are rightly proud of their culture.

A list of the top 20 games of 2024, ten were Japanese. Metacritic.

  4. I grew up playing dynasty warrior 3,4 and 5, and the last good one ive always played imo was 8. This is def the best one ive played since those games and have been playing it nonstop. Any hardcore DW fan needs to get this game!

  5. Sorry but to me this is not a "warriors" game! It's just another JRPG! What made DW and SW great for me was leveling up all the characters. They could not even put in a character creator? Game companies are getting lazy, giving us less and less packaged with a pretty bow and people gobble it up! Now that this has become popular I'm afraid SW and warriors games in general are done and gone. RIP 💀 at least we have warriors orochi 4.

  6. lol what a joke, the voice acting and animations alone are 4/10. This is a painfully biased review from a super fan that is burying all the boring, mundane, and weak aspects of this game.

  7. The game is called Dynasty WarriorS with an 'S' at the end of the word warriors to indicate you can play as multiple warriors like in every other DW game. Who wanted a DW game that you cant play with any of the actual warriors? Not me, thats for sure. puts money back into wallet

  8. I wish they’d make cool armor for us (like in Ghost of Tsushima or Wo Long) to upgrade to when your officer rank increases or something. We wear the same outfit throughout the whole story. I really like Lu Bu’s armor.
