Here's where I'm at. 810 subs, 11+ years making video content YT, 2200 videos and part of that 700/800 club for a long time. I varied content from coins, cards, stamps, outdoor videos, old TV commercials etc. Old TV videos get the most views 100-2k views.
A mail truck passed as you were talking about mail videos. I'm six years in with 179 subs. My videos suck from a technical (and artistic?) standpoint, but I'm OK with that. It's enough to be part of the community (and have Cooler Plastix as a viewer).
Eddy, I can’t tell you which of the 3 but I watch and enjoy your videos even if I don’t always leave a comment. I’ll try to do better. Glad to hear no near term change of plans. Take care Eddy.
The best advice is the comment you always make. We don’t count subs we count friends. Keep it fun Eddy! The reason I made this channel was to make friends like you and become part of the community . I am a small channel having a lot of fun. That’s all I want this to be. I would love to see the channel grow, but it really is not a priority for me. Keep it fun and do what makes you happy. I know it’s cliche, but that’s my approach.
Why you not watching my videos?!?! LOL! Same boat, but I just don't care as much about the data. This place is awesome and I'm going to keep sticking myself in at the rate that works. I'm so busy right now with other things that I haven't been making or watching as many videos, but I'll be back stronger in a little while. It's an ebb and flow… biggest thing is to get out of your head on the numbers, focus on what makes you happy and whatever happens happens
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I've been in this same spot. I just feel like it's not worth the time to do anything but make the videos the way I do now. The amount of content has exploded for sure. I just try to find the channels that I connect with, and sprinkle in the others as I have time. Hope you get some clarity.
My thoughts are that if I ever feel like YT is becoming a job or it is taking away from my hobby enjoyment, I'll stop or take a break. For me, learning new editing techniques is actually a lot of fun. I'm still not good at it, but I enjoy learning. Regarding getting new subs, never worried about it. Just having fun
For what it's worth, I really enjoy your channel. I usually watch, but I don't always comment, because I often watch on TV. I understand too that there are only so many hours in the day and there are many fun channels to watch. Also, life gets super busy sometimes. One thing I know for sure is that YouTube has connected me with many great people who also enjoy collecting. I hope you keep making content the way you always have. Thank you Eddy.
I enjoyed the drive and conversation. I experience the same thing. I know that for me, I have a hard time participating with everyone’s content due to time limitations. It doesn’t mean that I like anyone less, but it’s a time limitation. Also, it seems like videos on 50’s cards are just watched more. My cards from the 30’s are often overlooked.
I’m proud to be a sub. I try to watch and is mostly through the tv but we can’t watch everything. Even so, trying to figure out the YT algorithm is difficult for even rocket scientists. Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re appreciated & have an awesome channel.
I think from a viewer standpoint I try to scroll thru my subs for new videos. Some of my favorite channels seem to fall out of my stream which makes no sense. Make your videos for you brother.
Proud to be a subscriber I enjoy your TTM returns and other content. I like seeing new successes to give me new player to send to and grow my collection. I also like seeing what cards and memorabilia others have in their collections.
Being willing to share these feelings is one of the things that helps separate your content from anyone else. Metrics and algorithms and dashboards quantifying how and how much people consume your healthy self expression is really such a tough and unnatural thing to get used to. I’m certainly not used to it. Your coda to every episode, in my opinion, is exactly the correct North Star for this endeavor.
I can understand why you might be frustrated if your channel hasn’t been growing lately. All channels will only grow so large. It seems like the bigger channels in the sports card community tend to have some of the following going for them: high-quality content, both visually and in terms of research, focus on breaking product, graded card reveals, engaging personalities, a lot of time to spend on YouTube, and/or have incredible collections. Of course, there are exceptions. What I mean by a lot of time to spend on YouTube is they are grinders. They are putting out frequent content and on live streams. Not my thing because I would have no life balance, but people get pleasure out of different things. Some look at our card collections and think we are crazy to be spending that kind of money. To each their own.
If you want to focus on higher-quality content, go for it. If you're into research and production value, even if a lot of people don’t watch right away, you're still doing something you enjoy. On the other hand, if you really don’t want to spend the time on that, then I say keep doing the types of videos you have fun making. They might not get many views, but at least you're doing what you want to do. I, and others appreciate you even if we don’t watch every video and always comment.
When I started my channel, I didn’t know where I wanted it to go. I just began by showing cards and talking a bit about the players. Over time, I found my voice and gradually improved my production quality, thanks to people like Alex (Bowman 53)who have helped me. I'm always trying to get better at what I do, mostly for myself, but also because I want people to enjoy my videos. I have little interest in becoming a larger channel, but if that happens, great. What I enjoy most is engagement through comments. I have a large family, a career, and travel a lot, so I don’t have time to make too many videos, but when I do I try to put time into preparing something that has meaning to me.
Good luck, and Merry Christmas to you and your family
I dont always comment but I do watch your videos. I enjoy the mix of vintage & modern you show. I enjoy more of the channels i can relate to instead of the ones showing Ruths, Cobbs, & Gehrigs all the time.
Great video Eddy, you just said what a lot of us have been feeling. I learned several months ago that subs and views and comments don't seem to line up when it comes to videos. What I mean is that there will often times be less likes than comments, and a lot less likes than views, and way less views than subs. What I do know is that I enjoy making content and there is a core following that also seems to enjoy it, and you know what?…that's just fine with me. By the way, if you look at the "Big" content makers, they seem to have the same problem of views vs subs. It is what it is.
I loved hearing your thoughts and contemplation, Eddy. First of all, I'm very happy to hear that you have no plans to go anywhere. I also struggle with my own perceived inability to watch everyone's videos now, since there are so many awesome people out there. I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that I can only take in a sample video from many people per month now. As someone who does spend hours doing production items for videos, I'll share a bit. Ultimately, what has developed for me is that I have two hobbies: baseball cards and video editing. If you don't enjoy the process and it at all feels like a job, I wouldn't recommend it. As for views, it did feel like when I first started, I was putting in so much effort and so few people were actually watching which felt a little frustrating. One of the things I also do is rewatch my videos multiple times taking mental notes on what I feel like worked and what didn't with a constant eye for trying to improve. (So yes, I am a bit obsessive about both of my hobbies.) Over time, I seem to be getting more and more viewers but I've become very happy having a pretty good sized, very engaged audience. Only making about one video a week, my growth curve is very slow and I'm fine with that because I fear if it gets too large I will struggle to maintain my goal of commenting on every comment. I guess the bottom line comes down to only doing things you enjoy, being satisfied with the positive things you do have, and never doing anything where it feels like you have to do it and not because you want to.
What the hell do I know, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think shorts are the easiest way to grow your sub count. Younger audiences seem to consume more media that way. That seems to be the best way to push that number up, but I don't think you really get any engagnement in the long form videos from that group and IMO, the long form community interaction is way more fun. It also seems that some new channels that were around 12-18 months ago aren't putting out as much/any content and interactions that way have been going down. That leads me to believe that this little corner of the YT world is shrinking a bit. I've met so many amazing people through sharing videos and checking out other people's collections, that I'd be sad to leave it all behind. It's easy to get frustrated, but I'd bet you dollars to donuts that even if you had 1,000 subs right now, you'd still be socializing with the same core group of friends. Sub counts, like age, is just a number… unless you ask my knees; Then age is definatly relevant.
I have no clue how YT works. Very puzzling. My PSA reveals used to do very well, but barely over 100 now. VRs have never done well in terms of views, but VRs are about community friends and having some fun. This is what I would say; Eddy is not here for YouTube, rather YouTube is here for Eddy so that he can record his journey. There is no such thing as a "ceiling" Eddy. 2 hands on the wheel at all times please.
First, it looks like you have a really nice drive home. Second, we are all big Eddy fans in this house. I play your videos out loud because every time I do, both my kids repeat your "Hello everybody." I'm sorry your channel is stalling, but I learn a lot about different cards from you. I always have my wantlist open when I watch your vids. Do what makes you happy! Youtube is a hobby too.
This is a great reflection Eddy bc and you offer up some good questions for everyone to think about. The well thought out responses from most of the comments on this video, (which I’ve enjoyed as much as the vid) tells you your answer which is, most of us are looking for the same thing and we seem to be getting it from the smaller sub counts and meaningful interactions that have to do with this hobby. I think most of us felt the same when deciding to make the leap to start a channel. We wanted to interact with people who were genuinely related to our own excitement of collecting. I think our pride takes over when we start worrying about sub counts. Imagine if you looked at the amount of real comments on your vid that had 75 views and compared it to a vid of some knucklehead stealing someone else’s content that had 500k views but you didn’t know the sub counts of yours or their channel. I think it would spark a different feeling. I could ramble on about this subject for days. Anyway, thanks for asking the questions and great input from all of you !
We love you Eddy ❤. I cant speak for anything other than my own thoughts about it. I for one love opinions and videos just like this. Showing cards and expressing opinions about why you bought each card and what it means to you. Keep doing what you do my friend ❤️👊🤙🤙
I understand just getting these feelings out in an open forum can be cathartic and positive in and of itself. I think I could even hear your take on everything soften by the end of the video. At the end of the day my best take and thoughts on all of this is the community as a whole and the platform to document your collection and a time capsule of yourself highly outweigh subs, view counts and likes. I do understand that all three of those serve as gauge to monitor where your content is at and it is nice to have numeric proof to validate the importance of what you’re doing. But if after the 2 1/2 years I’ve been making content. if I only ended up with one person still subscribing to my channel and watching my content, and I could call that person a friend I would think it would still all be worth it. In my opinion, I think you hit the nail on the head with the fact that there’s so much great content and people out there. I’ve had the most channel growth by reaching out and finding new channels to subscribe and watch, and having those people reciprocate. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s a double edged sword where every time we add a new person to watch it takes up the time we could be watching Somebody we are already subscribed to. I think at this point it’s just one of those things that we just have to deal with. Eventually, the right video you make will find the right person that watches it that will really have an impactful connection for them and I think that’s really what it’s all about. Keep doing what you do Eddy and I look forward to more!
I have always felt that there is a correlation between money spent on cards and view count. The larger sports card channels tend to be ones that spend more money on cards (modern or vintage). That probably helps them grow and then spend more money on cards. I enjoy content about collecting and enjoying what you collect and stories about players, but I think the large majority of viewers are looking to see high value and rare cards which is hard to keep pace with.
Slow and steady. I've been at it for 7 and a half years with three videos a week for a lot of that time. I am so happy that those 900 subscribers took the time to watch my videos and want to watch more. I really enjoy the folks who take the time to do so. I just keep confident that my channel will continue to grow, so please try to think the same.

I’m proud to be one of your subscribers, Eddy! I do think there’s something to the sheer volume of sports card content on this platform, it’s gotten to the point where I can’t even watch all the content of my closest friends on here because they’ve become too plentiful, which is a great problem to have. So, I just try to spread it around the best I can. Keep ‘em coming, amigo! 👊😃
One of the first channels to give me a shoutout! Thanks my friend! Sometimes being a YT’er can be frustrating. Do what you like and as long as you enjoy doing it.
This is a great video and I think you ask a lot of questions that many of us have. One of the things I like best about your channel is everything is authentic, and as odd as that sounds, that probably is not the flashy, shiny object that attracts the most viewers. Just like everyone says they don't like clickbait in video titles, yet the most-watched videos have them. Mostly, I am glad that you will continue to make videos. I watch them, and don't comment nearly as often as I should, and I enjoy them. Perhaps one idea is to put together a series of what cardmunity channels can do to increase viewers, subscribers, etc. I think that is something a lot of people would be interested in. Anyway, keep up the great content and I will be watching. Your subscri…I mean, friend, Bronko
Man the scenery on your drive home is sweet. Beats highway traffic and a sea of car lights.
At the end of the day subs and views don't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I say this as someone who has been around for a really long time. Of course those things are encouraging but when you build relationships with people in the community that kind of stuff takes it's rightful back seat. What you said in the video is something that I also agree with very much, I like comments and engaging with people in the comments because it keeps the dialog going and it keeps people in touch, especially if you're not interacting with that person outside of YouTube. Everyone on YouTube needs to eventually find their why and reflect why they make videos. Knowing your why is important, and from listening to you Eddy it seems like you know your why. Keep being you and keep enjoying this great hobby and community on here.
I completely understand and see what you mean. I took a 6mos hiatus cause I felt a little burned out and I came back 10mos ago and my subscriber count has barely moved. Also, my views on my videos have taken a hit. I guess some channels choose not to watch others or something. I dont really know.
You do a good job with the channel. You've made many friends from it. If anything, look at it as a friendship generator. I've really not watched anyone's content for a few months. I just get too busy. I'm getting back into it with these short cold days upon us.
Keep up the videos. Yes, I have been stalled also. Putting videos out but very few new subscribers. It’s not you!
Some good thoughts, Eddy. I hope you stick around! You’re great and the niche needs you.
Hang in there. We all go through this.
Proud to be one of your subscriber friends Eddy 👊
I’ve stalled out too. I’m lucky to break 100 views on my videos. The YouTube baseball card platform is very saturated

Virtually patting you on the back. YT wouldn't be as much fun without you and I love that you do what you do.
