An important interview and ideas for expanding the domain of mankind. Seems to me that we will likely colonize Mars based upon opportunity, and that means building up the infrastructure there first. Industries such as metal refining, agriculture, and other things have to come first. It is a difficult and expensive place to colonize and it will take reasons much greater than those that exist to colonize the South Pole to get it done. Mining and resources, in addition to research and possibly defense, are likely things that will drive such colonization. Dumping a hundreds of people there without a good enough plan could very likely result in a modern Roanoke instead of a Jamestown.
