We are simply their guides so they can learn the ways of this world, until they can navigate it successfully on their own. We get too wrapped up in possessing our children, which causes much unnecessary strife. Do your best, then allow them to fly on their own.

  18. Aunty Fumi for the first time I hear my dad speaking through you. I was raised in a very strict Christian home; but one thing my Dad NEVER stopped us from doing was choosing our career paths. Imagine a man, cheering us on to pursue careers that would broaden and enrich our lives! That man, propelled us forward! He even told us that he'd sell the shirt off his back to see us succeed.
    And Aunty Christina said something my mum told the church mothers when they thought I was misbehaving: she said, "I gave birth to their bodies, not their souls."
    When parents understand that they are meant to be our caretakers, the job becomes easy, and fulfilling.
