Dead by Daylight Analyzed: Jill Valentine & Leon S. Kennedy

We’re finally getting into the Resident Evil Chapter of Dead by Daylight. We’re starting off with the two survivors Leon and Jill, and I gotta say that after doing my deep dive into the lore of RE and understanding what the games are about, I LOVE these two…too bad DBD really didn’t feel the need to go that deep with them in the lore department.

  1. Your research is spot on. I am disappointed in dead by daylight for not giving Jill and Leon justice in terms of lore, but your take was perfect. It was exactly what I did when I stared. My only take is that resident evil is a horror survival originally, and then it developed into an action in RE4.

  2. That's one of the odd things about survivors who are actually pretty strong and capable in their own universes being made into survivors in DBD. Jill Valentine and Leon Kennedy could absolutely take on and defeat some of the Killers of DBD (even their cosmetic counterparts, Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield and Carlos), but they're made helpless in the Entity's realm. There technically is a DBD lore explanation for this however.

The Entity's will is law in it's realm, and it's will is to essentially make all survivors – despite their capabilities outside The Entity's realm – unable to fight back in it's realm while also making it's chosen Killers stronger and more intimidating. That also explains why some human Killers who would normally be a regular human height (The Pig, The Legion members, The Hillbilly, Ghost Face, The Clown, etc) actually appear noticably bigger than all the survivors. The Entity alters them to appear more intimidating.

The lore doesn't go into further details (as far as I know) about why the Survivors don't fight back. It's worded and treated as if the Entity basically strips their will to fight back, for the most part (aside from Pallets, stuns, blindings, etc).

  3. Raven, if you ever want to play resident evil I highly recommend you skip the 3rd remaster, it deviates a ton from the original and Capcom decided to make Nemesis a joke. If you want to experience the horror of being chased and stalked by Nemesis you need to play the original resident evil 3.
Other than that, great video as always and I'm eagerly waiting to hear your thoughs on Nemesis lore in DBD.

  4. I also find it funny that DBD made Wesker his connection. When it came to RE2 Wesker wasn’t really huge in the game(at least not in the forefront. We could definitely argue behind the scenes.)(This also makes sense considering what he had happen to him in the mansion and fighting Lisa Trevor before escaping)

RE4 he was a factor, but more the chess player for Ada Wong and Jack Krauser. Really, they put two enemies that are directly correlated with Jill. I would love to see the Right Hand of Ramon Salazar be added eventually. Or Mr X as a Nemesis skin.
