At the end of the video, the reporter opens the door without checking for passing cyclists or other road users. Is that not dangerous?
How about we start by requiring routine warrants of fitness for vehicles? The number of cars on the roads that are missing head and tail lights indicates to me that cars are not being maintained well. A lightbulb is easy to replace, brake pads are not.
who was this for? there was no explanation for how injuries and deaths were to be reduced and eventually eliminated. nor the various agencies involved and the steps being implemented to achieve this outcome . seems a waste of resources to produce, what is essentially , a fluff piece that will be forgotten (and should be) the moment it is over.
The greatest impact on road fatalities is building safer quality roads.. DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS. The Pacific Hwy has had a 75% REDUCTION in fatalities whilst increasing the speed limits from 100 to 110. Tlhis is despite rocketing population growth and increased traffic volume. It is no great mystery. Spend the money, build gold standard dual carriageways between major towns and cities and the deaths drop dramatically! This focus on the driver and not focusing on the road quality is part of the problem and a complete ignoring of the evidence of what actually has dramatic impacts on fatality numbers. Gold standard DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS!!!!!!
If you are a passenger in a car and the driving is dangerous in any way at all, ask them to stop to car. If they refuse, tell them you are about to vomit everywhere. Then get out of the car. You might have a long walk home, but you'll be alive. With any luck the driver will have learned a lesson and think better when carrying passengers in the future.
Autonomy will complete the government's job for them. Every car sold in Australia today have lane departure assist, collision avoidance with braking and cross traffic alert to name a few.
So what we really need is cheaper cars for the young with this technology.
Why do they even build car's that can travel at excessive speed when it's not only dangerous but illegal to travel at high speeds.
honestly from my personal experience (and from watching the various australian dash cam channels) a good chunk of whats wrong is people being blatantly dangerous. Ignoring stop/give way signs, not yielding at roundabouts, not stopping at reds and the copious quantity of drivers who will go the wrong way because that saves them 5 seconds. People like to say how speed cameras and such are "fund raising" yet if they put a camera on every red light and stop sign they'd probably raise billions in the first year. Throw in cameras on "no left/right turn" and australia could be lifted out of its debt, simply on the backs of the drivers who just dont care. They read the booklets, they did the tests, they pretty much agreed with all the rules, and then flipped the middle finger the instant they were allowed to drive solo

I think this video is a bad take on driving in AUS. I don't know why you would ask for the opinions of teenagers who don't know how to drive and haven't experienced driving in the real world yet. If you watch enough DashCam videos you will know that the true reason why there are so many accidents, because 1) people don't look left and right when making turns. 2) People think they own the road. 3) half the time its the other car that caused the accident (the innocent car). 4) there are some atrociously busy T-sections and people get so angry waiting +5mins for a safe opportunity to cross. The reason for crashes IS NOT because people don't have their indicator on for 5seconds. Thats rtarded

Don't use your phone while driving, but every modern car has a big infotainment screen in the dash. What's the difference? They should be removed!
