Now there are concerns about how the department tracks any weapons issued to volunteer officers after Investigative Reporter Ted Oberg and the News4 I-Team discovered a high-powered gun owned by Culpeper County ended up 1,200 miles away.

  2. All in all the 5.56 Nato /.223 Remington is not that powerful of a round. Yes, it's a medium high velocity .22 caliber round but not that powerful when compared to other common hunting rounds such as the century + old .30-'06 Springfield. Or many newer hunting rounds such as the 7mm Remington Magnum. These are powerful rounds able to kill elephants. I have never heard of any anyone going to Africa with a puny 5.56/.223 to hunt dangerous game with. The petite 5.56/.223 was designed for a smaller rifle that the USA's smaller statured allies, re, South Korea and South Vietnam, could easily carry along with plenty of extra ammo.
